I live in Texas and fit in this group and this question is ridiculous. Most of our friends here are conservative and love me and my spouse, treat us like family. I’m not from Texas but I feel welcomed and loved here. My family (from a blue state) has a bigger issue with my preferences than anyone in my circle in Texas.
I have been all over this state and have had no issues. Sorry if something happened to you Principal 2 but that is not normal in Texas. Not at all and I have a lot of gay friends that will say the same.

Many Texans actually believe that a gay married couple should be able to be heavily armed with numerous guns to defend the marijuana farm in their back yard 🤷♂️
Oh and don’t forget that there is no such thing as a truck that’s “too big”

ID is a very red state
IL is probably what they meant
No need to get a quick win from being pedantic lol
1. You will not be officially fired for being gay in TX; buuuut
2. Texas is a right to work state, they can fire you for no reason at all, and you likely can’t prove otherwise; buuuut
3. Larger consulting firms are very unlikely to do so

Cole Amendment to FY 2020 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Defense, State, Foreign Operations,
and Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act (H.Amdt. 267)
Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) offered an amendment to the FY 2020 Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, Defense, State, Foreign Operations, and Energy and Water Development Appropriations Act (H.R. 2740) to remove a provision in the underlying bill that would have prohibited funds to implement the Trump Administration’s expansive and unnecessary regulation creating a “Division of Conscience and Religious Freedom” within the Department of Health and Human Services designed to empower health care providers to refuse service to LGBTQ people and people needing reproductive care. The House defeated the amendment on June 12, 2019, by a vote of 192- 230 (Roll Call Vote No. 266, 1st Session, 116th Congress). Democrats – 3 yes, 230 no, 5 not voting; Republicans – 189 yes, 0 no, 11 not voting.
Why is there a mass exodus to Texas sounds like an awful place living in the 1800s just to avoid some income tax
I'm thankful for the stereotypes if it's stopped even a few west/east coasters from coming. We need to stop arguing that Texas is a good place to live and just agree. If anything we need to kick the stories up a notch.

Tell me you know nothing about Texas without saying you know nothing about Texas...
Good grief, people, it's been 25 years since I lived in Texas and even then it wasn't an issue in either Dallas or Houston. Given the number of absurd questions I see about Texas on here, I have no faith in whatever news sources you get your Texas info from.

P2 also seems to forget rural MA, PA, IL, CA, etc. have more in common with Mississippi than Houston, Dallas, or Austin.
If you’re living in one of the metro areas - Austin, San Antonio, Dallas, Houston - you have nothing to worry about. Like most metro areas they lean left (and Austin is pure left). In other areas you might see more of the stereotypical Texas negatives (anti-mask, anti-vaccine, anti-government, anti-abortion, evangelical, Trump-loving, gun-loving, oil-loving, white cisgender heterosexual male favoritism, etc)
@EYP3
Funny thing is… that’s exactly what a bigot would say.
God that’s sad that this is even a question someone has. And yet there are still people *against* laws that protect the LGBT community. Wild.
It’s only sad bc people have been made to think this way. It’s a ludicrous question and the answer is no
Rising Star
Lmao this question is the same as "will the illegals take my job if I work in California" ... no, you won't be fired for being gay.
Rising Star
OP hasn't said that, they said Texas. Specific work environment issues can happen anywhere.

Texas is friendly and people won’t be against you for that. Stop reading on bunch of media bs and demonize people there.
We should generalize giant swaths of people more.
OP in case you haven’t noticed a pattern emerging, there are generally two types of people on here.
People warning you of how conservatives will treat you negatively and advising you to avoid them…
…And conservatives saying you are welcome everywhere and embracing you wholeheartedly.
I’ll let you make your own deductions from this.
I don't think most on here have been talking about conservatives, we've been talking about Texas.
Texas is not the most welcoming place for LGBTQ people, saying otherwise is pure BS.
Explain how this is welcoming?

Will your pink slip say "cuz he's gay" - definitely not.
Will you get fired for being gay? Unlikely.
Will you get treated different (bad way)? More likely than in another state* (city vs rural seems to matter more than the state itself, worked with openly gay people in Houston that advanced fine... But they didn't work in our manufacturing group which was more old school and rural based).
No, you won’t be fired and it’s sad to see someone ask such question in 2021 !! You are free to be whatever you want buddy
There was just a supreme court case on this last year, so no
https://www.oyez.org/cases/2019/17-1623
I thought this was protected under federal law?
Technically, this is protected, but if someone fires you for some other stated reason, it's very hard to prove the real reason as discrimination.
I'm gay and I've lived and worked here my entire career. Most companies tend to be very open and accepting and for those that aren't, you don't want to work there anyway. The major cities are very populated with other gay people as well.
I wish I’d get fired from a F50 for a discriminatory reason— that lawsuit would be so juicy lol
You'd have to be able to prove it though.
Nobody is going to say outright that you're getting fired because of your orientation. But bias, unconscious and otherwise, exists. You may not be part of the water cooler chats. You might not get staffed as easily. You might have to work harder to hit your sales and other targets. Your relationships might take more investment to get make them strong enough to secure promotions or good roles. This could happen anywhere, but i would expect that this would be more common in, TX vs CA, even if you consider things on a city basis like Dallas vs LA.
This kind of rhetoric is as bad as racism but culturally accepted.
Personally, I find it advantageous to be out and confident in corporate Dallas.
I’m gay in a suburb and perfectly happy.
Texas is bigoted. Don’t move here.
Lol wtf kinda question is this? we’ve got so many LGBT here you wouldn’t even be noticed.
