Will Slalom ever do covid layoffs?

We’ve gotten this far through the COVID crisis without laying anyone off, and I have zero reason to expect that’ll change anytime soon.

@OP, I take some offense that it’s because we “don’t have the balls” to impact our rating on Glassdoor. You might instead say that we have the conviction to actually practice what we preach; the first core value is, “Do what is right, always.” And we’re doing what’s right.

The office manager hired in my office two weeks before the COVID shutdown is still on staff. Their role has shifted, but we committed that they’d have a professional home, and we’re keeping that promise.

Since we have abandoned that ideal with the demonstrable conduct of the layoffs...will consider slalom for future moves. Thanks!

I feel like they don’t have the balls to do it to so they don’t tamper their “best place to work” branding

Sorry specifically meant the Glassdoor ranking of Best Places to Work that Slalom got last year.

No company can afford to hold onto a bench indefinitely... I will say Slalom has a strong bias to avoid layoffs as much as possible. Saw this first hand in NY when a large client suddenly ran into financial difficulties and cancelled all work. Something like 50 people hit the bench at once and all were eventually redeployed on other projects

like

Yup saw that same situation happen down in a TX market.

like

Why? In Chicago we had a dip starting in April, but we've seen a rebound to the point that certain practices no longer have a bench. Certain departments are going to start hiring. Why would slalom have to consider layoffs now?

So, I just fired my first employee as a manager and I'm heartbroken. He was a great, great person but after 6 months on a PIP he just wasn't cutting it skills-wise. I know he was the provider of the household and his wife didn't have a job since she was raising three young ones. Needless to say, I had to take off because I felt terrible, sick to my stomach. How do you deal with firing guilt? Is that a thing? I can't help but feeling like I did something wrong.

Do you find working remotely during this time that you’re having a harder time staying on top of everything that’s going on? With the scattered communication and a boss who hasn’t been as focused and can be hard to pin down, I sometimes think I’m giving 150% but something ends up lagging and I’m just wiped out. What are some of your tactics to avoid missed items and stay active and on top of everything through the Covid funk?

I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 12. My family did not opt to put me on medication. I illegally discovered Adderall in college. Worked incredible. Got diagnosed after college & after having been fired from my first job. Passed the CPA exams on Adderall. Went off of it again. I do everything well at my job except for attention to detail within my excel files & emails. Will taking ADHD medication really fix this? Does anyone else have this issue and was it resolved by taking medication?

Does Globant terminates the employment of certain trainees after their probation(3 Months) based on their performance in the training period? Some of the fresher trainees were laid off this morning without giving a notice or reason.

We were told that the probation period is a training period & not an elimination one. It was shocking as a few of those trainees were actually good.

Can I enter the US when I have H1B change of employer petition approved but employed with my current company and serving notice period? Which company’s I-797 form do I show immigration? Do I tell them about switching jobs, etc.?

My new company lawyers are not providing clear guidance on this and suggesting against travel due to COVID in general. Thank you.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
