PwC has provisionally cleared me to join the firm first week of Jan. What does this mean? Can I start working with them even if the background check is still running in parallel? Can I quit my current job and expect everything to be cool? They said it's taking them longer to verify education and previous employment. Both of which are international.

I recently went through something similar and I used chatGPT to help me determine if it was the right move. I asked it to calculate the average cost of commuting (gas, tolls, car maintenance, coffee, lunches, etc) over a year to see how much of my salary was going towards commuting. I gave it my current salary, expected salary. I compared benefits. And got a complete picture of the differences. I ultimately chose to leave. I’ve been at my remote job for a month and it was definitely the right move for me. If you can afford it and it makes sense for your lifestyle/career aspirations, I would seriously consider it. I do not, for even one minute, miss being in the office.
Don't forget that you might be dropped to a lower tax bracket.
I am more productive when I work from home 👀
Same !!! 100%
Yes, absolutely!
No, there is absolutely no need to visit office when working with geographically dislocated teammates. If the company insists on a cut, then this is a goodbye.
Will I take a pay cut so that my company doesn't have the expense of a swanky office in the middle of the CBD, power, desk, chair, double monitor station, not to mention the meeting spaces, the bar (yes, a bar) and the fridges, dishwasher et et et.
I too run a nationally and globaly dispersed team, Not a chance in hell.
No cuts. I’m expected to deliver the same value whether I’m in or out of the office. That’s what matters at the end.
Everyone here is focusing on “why should I let my firm make profit” however I am looking for answers where “how it will make your life better”
30% would be too much of a hit. 10% maybe, if the "remoteness" made up for the salary drop, i.e., fuel expenses, w & t on vehicle, your time, COL, etc.
If I was already in the office 5 days per week, then that would be normal, so I wouldn't care about working from home enough to take a pay cut.
