I think the best approach is to research companies you want to work for and then haunt the careers section of their websites. Or, use your searches on LinkedIn to let you know about a company, and then go directly to the company. Some companies will still post "ghost jobs" on their own sites, so it's not a guarantee that the jobs are entirely legit. But at least you're dealing with the companies directly.
I actually called a staffing agency that told me they had nothing available even though there website said they did. So frustrating!!!
I am also very suspicious. I applied to a remote job and got an invite for a “Virtual tour”, which I have never heard of. Is this normal? It made me question because the response was a micro second of hitting apply.
There are just way too many scams now
I have been using glassdoor and indeed. They are technically the same company so will have similar postings, but I have got really good response from employers through both and no spamming, and easy to use.
I usually use indeed but have found it unreliable recently
Normally I use Indeed, Zip Recruiter, Glassdoor, Monster and Careerbuilder. I used to use LinkedIn but I ended up closing out my LinkedIn account back in early January. I felt like their job listings were very questionable and the connections I made with the people on the site refused to help me out in regards to seeking employment
LinkedIn is not very trustworthy these days if you ask me. I feel like the recruiters and hiring managers are not being honest with the job seekers and also there are too many ghost jobs on there that keep getting reposted. It's insane
Honestly I still use Indeed and haven't run into any fake ads or scammers. I think partially because I can kind of tell when it seems fishy and I also do research into the company before I actually apply. But you are right there are far too many scams out there now.
I'm presently using indeed and glassdoor for my job searches since they provide the information that I need like location and salary range.
I trust none of the job listings posted by any of the staffing agencies advertised on the aforementioned job boards nowadays. If those job listings were posted by the renowned organizations, I would apply for jobs directly on the career home page of a particular organization. If those job listings were posted by a staffing agency, I would double check if the agency was a scam or legit via different sources. I might still go ahead to apply for those jobs but I would try to recheck for their legitimate status, as well as to look at their review ratings & details.
I had applied for a position related to my profession via Indeed.com before. the company replied me and offered me an unrelated position in a totally different field, i,e. administrative assistant of a bitcoin company.
There was another time that I had applied for a pharmacist position at Rite Aid's corporate office. I went through the virtual interview and I was later offered the position. HR sent me a bunch of paperwork to complete via email. She asked me to submit all those completed paperwork online, incl my personal data and bank account info. I asked to go to their corporate office since my position was supposed to work in the corporate office. HR replied saying that there was no corporate office which was closed down during the pandemic. She said she could meet me at either a shopping mall or come to my home to collect the completed paperwork. I therefore asked if I could submit the completed paperwork to a branch store which could sent the package to her via internal mail? She said she would not be able to receive any internal mail. I felt that it was so suspicious and I therefore declined the offer.
Corrections: HR asked me to submit the completed paperwork via email but not online via an encrypted website.

Linkedin
I just learned about this “fake” jobs thing and now Im wondering. I just got turned down by two employers but I never had an interview. I checked every box with past experiences for the hospital job. It was almost identical to what I used to do and no call. Just email saying the position was closed.
I use Indeed and LinkedIn.
Try Google Jobs.
I find Glassdoor and LinkedIn the most reliable. Indeed can be sketchy but I am beginning to suspect indeed and Glassdoor have become one company 🤔
