Im a huge advocate for the gym. Thats my time. No one can take it from me, its my time to (healthily) manage any stress/work build up. But i also cry lol
Yes. It's a new performance year. Take PTO
Yea. 1) find something to disconnect for a couple of hours - gym or movie theater works well. 2) figure out the eating hours. Either set boundaries or think about changing your environment
Get 100% offline for an entire day. 24 hours, full sun cycle, full calendar day. Don't touch a single digital thing and read, take a walk, have lunch with a friend. Don't touch a computer and avoid anything internet-connected.
I pulled the plug a little over a month ago and moved to industry (non-profit) because of this very issue (and because looking at the org above me, the problem seems to get worse not better). I know it means walking away from a lot of money (though my current pay stayed the same), but I feel like I have a life again. I see friends, I play golf, I've actually watched some of the crap on my DVR. I even read a book last week not related to my field. It's only been a month, but it's been transformative. Only thing I miss is the expense account!
OP, I'm in your situation right now
From my perspective, yes, EY is night and day. Totally different culture and much less competitive and much more mature. While there's always politics, EY is much more focused on growth and development (vs beating people down and hazing).
What's causing you so much anxiety specifically? If you're working hours but not charging them that's a whole other issue that you shouldn't be in.
You described me every weekend. You're not alone if that makes you feel any better. I'll have work to do and sometimes just sit there stressed instead of productive all weekend so there's never a break to chill
Today i planned to work. Woke up and said to myself "nope!". Busted out eight miles running, sat outside in the gorgeous sun, and am enjoyinf my time with my family on flex travel. Im not regretting my decision
Yes. As a former D'er, was there. I got an exec coach because found that D just beat me down and it made me feel like I couldn't do a thing right. Get out if you can - even if for a walk, brunch, errands. Also see your primary to see if anxiety meds might be an option. I promise -it's not just you. :)
How do you not have money if you're just working and not going out or anything? Are you aggressively investing that money into retirement?
You don't necessarily have to go anywhere
EY 1 - is EY different (better in general) in this regard? Serious, curious question here.
Yes, will be quitting this year to get past it.
Good for you Manager 1!
