Wow. There are so many layoff news from different agencies. Might not be as large of a percentage as early during the covid. Isn’t this a bit early in the season? I always thought it’s December when agencies trim the headcount. 😬

So are you saying its a bad time to have quit for a new agency 😬

like

No, not necessarily. If they have approval to hire, that should be a good sign. They may have won a new account or have a list of clients that are pretty stable year over year no matter the economy. However, my advice is to look at their hiring/layoff history (Google them for layoff news, check reviews on Glassdoor, etc). Make an informed decision.

Gotta make the cuts before you have to cover Thanksgiving holidays

Particularly if they are publicly held, they have reign in their budgets before the end of the year, projecting and setting budgets for next year. November is a big month for layoffs in many industries during economically challenging times.

Sooo we don’t think there will be a lot of hires in the beginning of the year?

likefunny

Which agencies had more layoffs? I know RPA laid off about 45 people (6% of staff) two weeks ago.

like

Across the board I believe.

ESPN if you want to count media. All the restuin Manhattan ate still laying off.

Well... most agencies are down big year over year. What are they supposed to do? Use money they don’t have to pay salaries?

like

They need to cost cut even more to stay afloat this year, the extra few weeks will help.

I was about to take an offer for another agency.... should I hold off now?

Pros: ?

Cons:
- culture deck is something else: if they think they can do better than you, they will just let you go

- they think they’re the Yankees: if you’re batting.385, but they think there is someone out there who can bat .400, you’re going to get fired

- they will openly discuss at a meeting why you suck

- Reed Hastings' leadership style was once described as being "unencumbered by emotion". A VP once told him he's not a good listener and tends to be unempathetic.

Hi all. I am trying to determine if I am being compensated fairly. I am a tax manager (about to start my second year as manager) and have been with EY since staff 1. I was promoted to manager in June 2020 (during covid) and received a 7.5% raise. The class above me has mentioned they received much higher raises during their promotion years. My base salary is now approx. 97K. Any insights would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

It’s so nice that every agency laying off people, have those left standing (and other agencies) trying to hustle jobs for their unemployed friends, but there are also a ton of people who were unemployed prior to Covid...so no severance, job hunting lot longer, and not earning income for longer time...hurting even MORE due to quarantine.

When did vaccines and mandating them become so divisive and political? Most colleges (and some jobs) have always required proof of vaccination for MMR, HPV, etc well before Covid. Now everyone seems to be all up in arms for Covid vaccine and work mandating them. The science to make a vaccines isn’t new (which explains the speed) nor is the mandates to get vaccines. The vaccine is also clearly effective so this “debate” seems silly at this point

I have never done freelance work and was given the opportunity to take part in a cool project. My problem is it’s a proactive case by a brand new agency and it’s their own project, meaning there’s no client who pays for the work. It does have potential for a great case and I’d love to have it in my portfolio, but is it reasonable for them not to compensate me? Any tips on how to approach this?
