The new company I’m at now sent me an email from an email address that was HR@companyName.careers saying I was accepted for the position. They gave me paperwork to fill out and sign to accept the position
I fill out the paperwork and send it back to them and it goes through… then a few days later I go back to the email to say something else and I get this…?
Then today I got a check from the company In the mail to setup my home office, and it’s signed by someone I’ve never met before or heard of…?

It seems there is a potential lawsuit if 1) you have a written offer from them 2) you left your previous job or rejected your other offers/ interviews because of this one. If answers to both are yes, would be good to consult a lawyer.
But what’s one day gonna do when you already gave notice for your other job now you’re out of job they should at least give some sort of two week or month severance to help her get back on her feet
Name and shame the company
Debt collectors are the scum of the earth. They treat everyone like crap. Be glad you're out but yes try to sue if you have a signed contract!! And NEVER work for a debt collector again.
That’s a rough situation, and unfortunately it can happen. The important thing to keep in mind is this: situations like that are almost always about internal company dysfunction or timing issues, not your performance or value as an employee. A hiring decision getting reversed that fast usually means something was misaligned on their side (budget, approvals, or leadership disagreement) and it came out after you were already in place. It feels personal when it happens to you, but it usually isn’t. It’s a process failure, not a reflection of your capability.
Auditors are normally not that empathetic to others. You may try having empathy and compassion. The distinction between accountants who are financial and tax versus auditors: we have compassion and empathy for others. We don't just look at and analyze numbers. We see people as humans with feelings, not a number for compilations.
update: i’ve reached out to a few employment law firms and got the same answer: they can’t accept my case, but it doesn’t mean i don’t have one… yeah, i don’t think this will go anywhere, unfortunately.
also, the company in question is Triton Recovery LLC in Coral Springs, FL. they can go f*ck themselves.
With that attitude, I think things will work out for the best 👍 . . . .
If you quit your other job, incurred moving costs, etc at least ask them for some type of severance for your troubles
Talk to a lawyer.
i live in florida and i’m wondering if i have a chance at a lawsuit given that we are at “at will employment” state. anyone have any experience with this? is it worth contacting a lawyer?
Isn’t “at will” the very definition of firing/quitting at will? They can’t make you stay and work, and they also don’t have to keep you.
As long as the reason wasn’t of discrimination, they’re perfectly within their rights to do this. It’s crappy, but you don’t have a right to employment in FL to my understanding
That is horrible…presents the company very poorly. I hope you figure this out and good luck to you.
You will need to consult with a lawyer. Some will do a free initial consult to see if there is a case.
On the surface, it doesn't look like it. But it may depend on the details not mentioned here.
