Question for those in the experiential space.

What are you specifically looking for in account roles?

In over ten years of applying to multiple agencies and at different levels I’ve only had one interview and job at the account level. This does not include the 7+ years working as a freelance event manager for many agencies across the U.S.

Or working client side.

At what level do people stop updating their portfolios? I’m haven’t really updated my site in a few years. I just present a few case studies on Keynote when I interview.

I have an interview tomorrow (maybe the final one?) with 3 people I’d be working with — other writers and a designer. It’s for an in-house role. Any thoughts on questions I should ask?

Anyone ever go through 6+ grueling hours of amazing, positive interviews only to be told that you don’t have enough of one very specific type of experience that is clearly listed in your resume and could have been filtered out before proceeding? Before today me neither. I’m still in a bit of shock over the whole thing. The hiring manager said I’d be perfect and all the other interviews were just a formality. Apparently not!

How long after the post interview thank you email to the CD should you be hearing back from a recruiter for next steps?

My job is cushy and it pays good for Minneapolis.

I have this need for something more and new, but none of my interviews, no matter how great I perform, seem to stick. Should I just take a break and coast for a bit?

Is it acceptable to drop out of a job interview process because of how long it's been taking? I understand that interviewing can take a while but it's a role that I'm not 100% invested in and the dragged out process has turned me off from it even further. There's 3-4 rounds left. If I tell the recruiter im no longer interested, do I even mention the long process as the reason?

Interviewing with founders of a small shop. I want to ask them in a professional, sincere way if they had to let go of people during the pandemic. Is that bad to ask? “What steps did you take in order to protect job security during client loses?” Is possible. Bc I know some places were able to keep ppl.

Bummed out I spoke too much about my passion for film/tv spots in my JR CW position interview. I don’t think the CD thinks I’m a good fit for the role now bc the agency works primarily on social.

Is it weird that I like applying to jobs? I just started a new role and I miss the chase (not applying now since it would be a waste/disrespectful of the hiring teams time) but I miss the rush of getting emails from recruiters and talking to other folks.

What are some standout interviews you've had and why?

Interviewed on the brand side with a very well known beauty company. They wanted to take my 5 years of experience and only pay $65k (NYC). The recruiter said I should really be flexible and be open to a salary cut if I want to move to the brand side. I know this such bullshit having done other interviews in the past.

How early is too early to start interviewing at new places?

Totally happy with my current gig, but just got a referral at a place that would be cool to talk to too.

I’m interviewing for a new job this week, but I’ve only been in my current role for a little over 6 months. How would you go about answering the question “why are you looking to leave?” Hopefully since I’ve landed these interviews this won’t be a huge dealbreaker?

I’m turning down a higher role with higher pay (12% higher) solely because the HR team has been extremely unhelpful throughout the decision making process. From not getting responses for weeks, to consistently receiving “I don’t know, let me follow up” then not receiving follow ups, and everything in between. All of the interviews leading up to the offer was great, but then red flags started popping up making me feel very uneasy joining this company. Have you ever denied an offer because of HR??

How many rounds of interviews are normal for a small, independent agency? I’m in the process of interviewing for an associate account executive (entry level) position if that helps! I’ve had a phone screen and one virtual interview with the co-founders so far.

How long did it take you to get your job - from first interview to offer?

Had an interview where I got a bunch of mixed signals from the VP (this was my 2nd interview) but overall ended off well. However, I haven’t heard anything since. I sent a follow up to the HR manager last Friday and crickets. Should I just write it off as a loss or still hold onto (very minimal) hope.

What do you do if you are in the last rounds of interviewing with one agency and expecting an offer but then another agency reaches out with a dream opportunity but haven’t even started the interview process with them yet? I don’t want to completely blow off this guaranteed offer to put all of my eggs in this basket that might not exist. But I also don’t want to settle.

Currently interviewing for Jr. Positions with my partner. Is it better to shoot for a higher salary and then work down? Or would you just get dismissed for unrealistic expectations? Any tips for handling the salary talk?

I’m at a subset of a big name agency, but not getting the opportunity to work on projects with a high level of creativity. I’m in interviews with a pretty much non-recognized agency but I would be getting to do much more creative work. Would you: hold it out at the big name agency and keep pressing for projects? Or make a move to the place where you’ll get to make more work.

How long is okay to make a company wait on a job offer? Got a good offer from place a but am still interviewing for something I really want, though not feeling 100% certain I’ll get an offer from place b.

Finally my turn to vent this frustration:
Working under a young CD. Not good at offering feedback or really guiding the work at all. I’m applying currently, but what has helped you all in the interim?

As part of the interview process at a well known tech company I presented a Keynote case study a few past projects, however mid way thought the 3rd project I ran out of time. The work and presentation went well up until that point, but I’m worried I just lost my chance at the gig by not finishing within the stated time given? There were technical issues at first sharing my presentation on their video app and I was deducted this time from my presentation. Any one have experience with this?
