Hi all, I’ve been the In-House Designer for an organization for the last 5+ years. Being the only designer and one of two marketing guys, I’ve had to do all tasks extensively.

I’m ready for my next adventure and I’m looking to advance to the Art Director position next.

Any advice on what I can do to make myself attractive to hiring managers as an Art Director?

I’m currently a Jr Art Director in Dallas. What is the average salary I should be looking at for an Art Director position?

I’m assuming US ad agencies have stopped looking into hiring any international peeps

Hi fishies 🐠 I’m an Art Director that’s trying to transition over to UX Design. I have experience building websites and some previous freelance work doing some UI/UX. What’s the best route to transition over and would I need to apply for entry level roles? Does an AD role with a UI/UX focus even exist? I enjoy the thinking of UX design and am comfortable designing interfaces but I’m mostly unsure of the process of working with an UX team. Would love to hear your thoughts!

Been an art director for 12 months but grown in my role significantly & my boss told me my next promo was “political”. I’m managing well over 1.5M a year, 9 brands. Functioning with little to no oversight on a day-to-day basis, w/ only strategy checkins with my CD. 100% client facing. I’m managing 1 direct report and from 2-8 copy and art freelancers at any time. I feel like all my stretch goals are ACD focused. Yet still need SAD before ACD. Does this sound like an art director? Pharma agency.

Any tips for going from Designer to Art Director? I keep getting feedback that I have a designers portfolio. I have 10 years experience as a designer. I’m stronger conceptually and I want my next role to be in Art Direction. I’ve considered portfolio school but I don’t want to take 2 year off of working. Thoughts? (Currently unemployed)

Would you leave TAS M&A FDD for a corporate finance FP&A role?

FP&A role is directly reporting to the CFO with heavy modelling and will have a few sprinkles of corporate strategy ad hoc projects. This role is also roughly a 20% pay increase.

Is this a good move? Not really sure what my ultimate goal is in life, for the purposes of this I would say I’m interested in both paths equally. Does switching to FP&A now bare me from returning to the M&A industry in the future?

Got invited to interview for an Ad Ops Manager role - Has anyone made the switch from media planning to Ad Ops? How was the transition and is there any major difference in career growth paths? Do you hate it/love it?

Just received my contract for a 12 month contract role and it says I have to give them 2 months notice if I want to break the contract? Previous contract work has always been max 2 to 4 weeks. So 2 months seems ridiculous? Especially given it’s not my dream job, not my level, and paid way less than what I should be getting as an AD. Has anyone ever negotiated on the notice period? Only wanted to take it because I’ve been out of a job for 2 months and thought I’ll keep looking whilst having this.

Do any creative directors need help with childcare? —————— as a Jr Art Director I know hiring will continue to be slow BUT I have been working on and off as a nanny and would love to help some people who could possibly help me network. I am GREAT with kids, can give you references, responsible when it comes to Covid and staying healthy, and in need of a purpose other than finding a job.

I currently work full-time at an ad agency making $40k a yr in an entry-level role; however, I am now in the late interview stages w/ a major tech company who is offering $85k but for a contract role w/ no guarantee of hire since I would be covering someone’s temporary leave.
I really want to work in music but I am iffy on leaving a full-time job for a contact.

Hey all - I currently work as PM at a NY agency. However, I went to school in Boston and my partner is from the North Shore. We’re thinking about making the move back to Boston early next year. Does anyone have an insight into the ad industry in Boston? What’s it like? Are agencies hiring? How’s the culture? If anyone has worked in NY as well I’d love to hear about how the two cities are different from an ad industry perspective.

It feels like being an art director is the worst position. We’re expected to wear so many hats - concepting, writing, designing, animating, file management, retouching, etc etc. We do 80% of the work, put in the most hours, and then can’t progress because we don’t have the time to do “proactive briefs” and we burn out because the expectations are ridiculous. Has anyone successfully pivoted out of art direction and where have you landed?
