Has anyone ever interviewed for a higher level position and been offered a tier below?
Ex: Interviewed for VP and offered Associate?

Due to move to London (from abroad) and start a position as an associate with a US firm towards the beginning of next year and wondering if anyone has any suggestions on nice areas to live in London? Firm is based around Holborn

Input needed. Received offer from McK as a manager on solutions side. Currently Sr. associate at boutique (generalist). Just received a promotion to engagement manager that I thought I had no shot at. New comp is now slightly higher than McK offer. Am I crazy to question the jump? What other things should I be considering? Exit opps, benefits, advancement, etc. Thinking I should leave to get McK on the resume, but hard to leave money on the table. Realize a lot of factors, but any thoughts? TIA

Would love to hear anyones thoughts on this…recent MBA graduate in quant finance. I’ve got two job offers. One from a regional boutique investment bank as a senior analyst and one from PwC DDV senior associate. The IB job off is less than half what PwC is offering me. I wanted to know if taking such a low paying IB job is better for the future than taking PwC DDV offer? Any exit ops for PwC DDV? And I’ve always wanted to get into IB and finally here’s my opportunity. What would you do?

Last associates committee meeting is coming up. Partners have asked each associate to come up with... not one... but FIVE marketing ideas. Other than reeling out “we offer competitive pay” in job postings, what are some good ones your firm does?

Has everyone ever heard of Grant Thornton’s “Strategy Associate” position? I have two interviews for this position, and I’m really excited about it. However, the interview is broken up into two parts (behavioral and case study), and I don’t have a clear understanding of what the case study could be. I’m coming from one year of audit experience. I’m not familiar with case studies. I really want to do well on this interview but without proper understanding I don’t feel I will pass the case.

What keeps you motivated? I’m a first year associate, been working for about six months, and I’m finding the transition to big law incredibly difficult. Tips for pushing through? When did you start to feel comfortable in your position?

Compared to NYC, how much do US associates in London come ahead after all tax considerations? I love London (have lived in college) and would love to work there for 2-3 yrs and come back. But I also heard you have to do HY capital markets (or PE funds) in London. I’m in general corp (mostly m&a) and hate m&a. But I’m concerned about the limited exit options as a HY cap market (or even funds) associate down the road.

Any thoughts on TPG’s REPE group? Interviewing for an associate position in SF, talked with a couple VPs, still need to talk with an MD and take the modeling test.

Is it dumb to take a new role at a lower title but higher total comp? I’m currently an associate product manager at an agency supporting federal clients. I have an exit opportunity as a product analyst at an established healthcare tech company. Current role is about leading a team to build/enhance products. Exit op would be less implementation focused.
Current comp as APM: $83k
Comp for potential new role: $113k

What is the reputation of Teneo in the consulting world? I understand they're pretty big in political PR but their consulting branch appears to be quite new. i have been offered a position as an entry level Associate consultant and I am wondering whether I should take it.

I have worked in M&A consulting in Pharma/ LS for around 3+ years post MBA. Late in life, but I am keen to pivot to pharma IB and open to an associate role (currently on way to be SM in June).
Any bankers here or those who may know of someone making a similar switch help with how to go about it.

I have two friends working as Associate at McKinsey willing to refer me. One is a close friend, former case partner, working at the office I want to join, and is very likely to give me a strong referral but he just joined the firm 2 months ago. Another friend is not super close but gave me a PEI mock before, she works at a different office (one of the biggest US offices) for abt 2 years, to be promoted to EM soon. She seems to be pretty involved in recruiting. Which one should I go for? Thank u!

Is it worth taking a ~20% pay cut for a product mkt role in tech?
Imagining more interesting work and better WLB. Company has IPO’d with good growth trajectory (hence equity may grow).
Honestly the pay cut would not affect my quality of life but it’s so hard to not think of the opportunity cost and that I will make the same as a first year associate.
