Did 3 panel interviews at Discover Financial Services for the Sales Account Executive role and felt the TC package was too low. Salary at $70K with annual bonuses at 25% with. $5K one-time sign on bonus. I made the case that my experience and education was far more than even the preferred criteria on the job description, and over 3x of the minimum qualifications. The recruiter is now thinking of two other roles for me:
Lead, Program Marketing
Lead Field Solutions Representative

I’m loving my new job as a staff accountant! Everything is consistent and repetitive. Call me boring but this is exactly what I wanted in a job . I’m coming from banking, a client facing role that was literally unpredictable every second. So I’m loving this new role!

I was offered a salary of $76,000 for an associate analyst role at FINRA. This would be my first time transitioning into this type of role. I have about 2 years of brokerage experience.

Do you guys think this is a fair market value for the salary?

Starting a new role in front office investment banking! Any advise on how I can set myself up for success?

I work in a transformation role within asset management (>500B fund). So although not a finance role and I have some client engagement (depending on project), definitely a back office role. Currently working and sitting with front office teams for a new engagement. I know their comp is better but I gotta say, their wlb might be better too!

Very surprised. Always argued that I like my role vs moving to front office or consulting bc I didn’t want to have crazy hours.

I took a job at Wells Fargo CIB and am thinking of trying to eventually transition from my business execution consultant role to a more finance based role. Would an MBA help with this or am I looking at it all the wrong way?

Was just offered a role as a Real Estate Banking Intern for their C&IB Developmental program at PNC Financial Services. Anybody have any insight? Trying to make sure I don’t get low balled coming into the program. I have an MBA/MS Finance Real Estate and have just separated from the military.

I graduated in 2021 with a BSBA focused in investment analysis. I took a job in financial services not knowing what I was getting myself into. I quickly realized that my interests and education are being severely underutilized. I have a goal to break into FP&A in the near future, but every interview i’ve had leaves me feeling under qualified. Very curious, am I missing a step in terms of entry roles? How can I leverage my service experience and education to land a position like this?

Hi Credit research Associates/ Analysts in the fixed income space, what would be the best way to equip myself with enough knowledge to be qualified for a first year position? I don’t feel like what I do now is very intellectually fulfilling…I graduated college last year from a decent UC. I’m in my last year of law school (T14) and I’ve got an offer a top big law firm (V5). So far I’ve focused on pursuing PE M&A and fund formation work, rounded out with some syndicated credit.

I have an interest in eventually ending up in a buy-side role, and I’ve been taking classes at the business school accordingly: accounting, FSA, valuation principles, etc. with plans to take a modeling course next semester.

I am currently in the market for a new job. I would like to transition into a finance role but most require 3+ years of finance, sql, report creating which is experience I don’t really have. On a daily basis I am reviewing dozens of different company financials, import activity, and determining risk for customs bonds. Any ideas on what roles that I can develop better skills in that are closer to finance?
I am staying away from jobs in the insurance, mortgage, and banking industry.

For some reason I blanked on a technical SQL question.

I plan on sending a routine ‘Thank You’ email to the interviewers, but in the email should I include the answer to the technical SQL question?

Hi all! Can anyone here provide advice as to how I can get a equity research biotech position at a bank? I just finished my masters in biology but I don’t have finance experience (although I’m taking online courses now). I worked as an academic researcher for about a year but I’m now trying to get a position as an analyst at a bank and work my way up. Any thoughts or advice is appreciated 🙂 I’m really interested in Goldman Sachs but haven’t heard back since my hirevue in June.

I’m running the SBA division of a community bank as a one-person operation, packaging, servicing, and selling the portfolio. I’ve been in banking for 15 years, with 7+ being in business banking and SBA lending. I’ve been in my current role for the last 1.5 years and was promoted internally. Would anyone on this platform be in similar roles and mind discussing your compensation structure? I’ve been trying to research this position and can’t find much data anywhere to determine where I fall.

Hey!! Is it normal practice with Morgan Stanley to reach out to a candidate and schedule the interviews and then cancel because they filled the role? They are probably doing me a favor!!!

Got approached for a Junior Quant Analyst role with BOA (london office). Recruiter suggested that people tend to “roll off” into permanent roles after 12 months on a contractor salary. Any insights into salary expectations for the Junior Quant Analyst role as well as future progression?

Recently had an offer from UBS to join their Training Financial Advisor program in the city I am looking to move back to and figured this was my lucky break — I’d be able to leave a company with very serious internal problems and also be able to provide more value to my clients. About a week and a half ago, UBS rescinded my offer. I left my position shortly after as I was very distraught and wanted to dedicate more energy to applying.
