So, I’m currently interviewing for new job, and market is not bad, but I’m anxious and I am interviewing for every opportunity that comes my way (director/vp level, tech). Today, September 30 I received an invite for an initial interview for another opportunity. So I applied to this opportunity through networking on August 10 (!). It looks like a red flag for me and I’m thinking thankyounext, but again it’s covid time... Thoughts?
About to turn down a job offer that would nearly double my salary after speaking to several former associates of the firm and hearing some not so great things. The word “sweatshop” was used multiple times yet I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around it. This is truly “you can’t pay me enough to be part of that” in action. I am betting that I can get the same money at a place with a better culture - hopefully I am right!
Need to define diverse talent metrics to create a scorecard. Challenge is that the available data is based on opting in/out of self identification, that data point can change dramatically YOY. Any recommendations on metrics and scorecard?
Would you ask for a higher pay at a startup, due to the company not having a pension scheme for its employees?
PHR or SHRM? I am looking to get more certifications related to HR vs recruiting, but I am unsure on which one is "better" or will help me grow into more of a strategic HR role. Help!!!
Just got finished with two huge projects I had to turnover in a very tight timeframe. One of them barely had any revisions and the other got clobbered with redlines. Clearly the latter was the one I was working on at 2am. This is my very first assignment as a first year at big law and I wanted to make a good first impression. I feel like I squandered that opportunity.😣
Are you folks happy with your decision to make a career in sales? I’m young working in tech sales, but also have my bachelors in psychology, and could see my self happily going for my masters maybe even PHD and being a counselor.
Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!
Second year associate getting ready to move from a small firm to big law in the SE. Any advice or tips to help prepare for the transition?
This might be a dumb question so pls excuse my ignorance but do non-equity partners get bonuses? Is that a thing?
Pfizer is 80% effective after the first dose and 90% effective after the second dose, according to a new real world study. Most ill effects are from the second shot. So I’d prefer not to take the second shot. Am I wrong?
How much heads up to you give a firm for a semi emgrecy medical procedure? I had a gallbladder attack and my doctor wants to remove it. It's not quite emgrecy surgery but not something they want to wait too long. My firm knows I was sick a day this week. How much heads up should I give them that I will be having surgery and might be out for a few days?
Monday morning and the only thing that goes through my mind is wow I hate my job. Between the strict requirement of releasing billing time daily, high billable goal and I guess a heavy workload (and everything that comes with living through a pandemic) it’s hard to start my day excited for work. And I hate it. Makes me question why I’m doing this for a living.
For those of you in house, do you actually read the articles written up by law firms? I’m constantly being asked to do this non billable work and I’m not in a place to reject and want to know the actual value of this exercise.
Would you let the head of your practice group know if you originated business for another group?
Question: I have a lawsuit against a center that filed for BK. I believe there is insurance from the time in question. However, I know BK stays the litigation and then disposes claims. Do I have any recourse? Can I still reach the insurance? Thanks you.
First time founder - would you recommend square, stripe or something else for purchases between $150-$10k or what alternatively?
This might be a dumb question, but can an arbitration be seated in New York but apply the law of Switzerland?
I’m spending some of my Bonvoy points to stay at a luxury hotel for the first time ever. What am I supposed to tip people there? This place even has a butler service - I’m not even sure what they do.
Google just reached out to me about a Sales Engineer/ Solution Architect role. Does anyone have any details about responsibilities/ wlb/ salary expectations?
I make 3x more than my boyfriend & it feels like I’m maintaining him. I don’t mind paying for the more pricey things & treating him, but it’s really starting to get to me. I’m supposed to move back to my home office town soon & he wants to come along, however I’m worried I’ll be maintain him even more & my cash flows will suffer. Thoughts?
I’m in a fortunate position where a family member is paying full tuition but I plan to borrow for the full quoted COL amount. My question is how will that work logistically given we don’t differentiate what the loan is for with the school/Juno/Federal? Would like tuition paid by said family member with the loan basically forwarded to my bank account in the amount equal to Full COA - Tuition… Ie COL. What I’m trying to avoid is the loan credited to tuition. Any insight is much appreciated.
Does anyone know what McK Radar team is like? Passionate about DoD and curious what the likelihood is to transfer from Big4 to MBB in the federal space compared to the commercial space. Happy to DM!
So my bf family originally canceled Christmas celebrations due to covid but is now planning to have a “get together” with just half the family while excluding the other half. When I asked wont the other half be mad, I was told they just won’t tell them about it. I being who I am told someone on the side not being invited cuz I thought it was plain wrong. The person acted on it today asking if it was happening to a cousin in law and now they’re trying to see how it happened. Did I mess up?
Any ACD/ADs in here who got hired out of their mid-sized market as a Sr.AD and into a large market as an ACD? (Re: promotion) I’m in Chicago and specifically looking at NY & SF. How did you do it?
I’ve got ~2 YOE at a boutique consulting firm and ~2 YOE at a tier 2 consulting firm (OW, LEK, EYP, ATK). Any chance to enter MBB at a non entry level position, even though I’m only 1 role above entry level at my current firm?
Checked in late last night, upon waking up I have seen 4 bugs on the ground and 2 in the shower. I packed up and am going to ask for another room...And how many points? I'm so grossed out
I got an experienced consultant verbal offer at a B4 before the holiday break, so my HR business case is still getting approved. Any idea how long these can usually take?
Do you approach interviewing the same as you do dating? Basically, if they liked you they would make an effort to contact you and not vice versa? Had an interview on Friday and still haven’t heard anything back. Company was looking to hire someone immediately. Wondering if I should reach out or assume they’re not interested.
Are cover letters important if they don’t ask for one? There are so many job postings and applicants I can’t tell if they would be beneficial to show effort or just a waste of time to write with how little time I assume people are looking at applications with the mass hiring going on. If I should be writing one, any advice how to format?
Recruiter asked me where I was living and I told her the nearest big city to my house. She then asked if I lived in the city or the suburbs. Besides homes office do they ask this to see if you should get a higher/lower salary depending on your response?
I work in insurance defense and we are getting slammed as far as workload and have been for some time. It’s nice because I haven’t had to beg for billable work and always hit my goals. My question is whether this has been the norm at other insurance defense firms. My other question is how other states are dealing with COVID restrictions on jury trials. Has anyone tried anything during the pandemic?
Do you own a Lovesac City Sac? Or a Cordaroy's Full Size bean bag? If so, do you like it? Am lookong for a non-toxic/ecofriendly bean bag option. Suggestions? 🙏🏼 Would be a great WFH chair.
So I got an email from a recruiter at BDO. that got me wondering, is there a difference between big 4 and bdo? just curious, besides paying me more money what could possibly entice me? I am in audit.
Hi! I’m starting my first job out of college next week. It is an industry job, pretty okay work life balance. This role is an experienced hire role and I’m very nervous because I recruited as a new grad. I would love any advice on how to adjust to the work, any skillsets I should learn, routines to create, or just anything I can do to prepare myself in the corporate world and “adulting”. Many thanks🙏
