I kick myself almost every day for not taking advantage of the lock downs to move back home and work remotely. I'm here almost every weekend, and my husband is so much happier when we are here. And my dogs are happier too obviously. Sometimes I wonder if I should just do it... Give up DC living and see if the firm will let me stay on as remote.

For those of you who spent the time and money to get the PHR or SHRM certifications, do you feel that it actually strengthened your professional capabilities as on HR professional, or did you just do it to fit into the “HR Professional” crowd?

My labor & employment law firm has misclassified about 15-20 of it's associates. We weren't being paid 2x minimum wage in order to be classified as exempt employees. This came to light and then they gave almost no direction or answers for about 3 weeks and just responded that they will give all the affected attorneys back pay only. We are entitled to meal/rest break claims, OT, wage statement violations, waiting time penalties, etc. What should we do?!

Just got finished with two huge projects I had to turnover in a very tight timeframe. One of them barely had any revisions and the other got clobbered with redlines. Clearly the latter was the one I was working on at 2am. This is my very first assignment as a first year at big law and I wanted to make a good first impression. I feel like I squandered that opportunity.😣

I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.

Question for you sales and saas guys. I work for a fast growing startup and we are billing around 200 K a month. I am in charge of the sales team and our CFO mandates that we collect ACH payment information on every agreement. The problem with this is we have to reel in micro deposit amounts from customers and it feels like herding cats. I’ve worked for three great tech companies and I’ve never had ACH nor have I ever paid for services with ACH. Is this a totally dated process?

Hi there! I need some guidance. HR and global leadership rolled out some amazing new initiatives like not starting until 10 am on Mondays, no meeting Fridays and required 2 additional summer days a month. The problem is, my boss refuses to comply with the initiatives. He constantly scheduled meetings before 8 am on Mondays and after 7 pm on Fridays. He also doesn’t let me take time off. Should I go to HR? I’m really not one to complain but I’m tired and extremely burnt out. Thanks for your help!

How much nonbillable time is too much? I’m a second associate at a midsized firm and I have 30-50 non billable hours each month. An associate at another firm told me this was really high. Thoughts?

Is this normal? At an AMLaw 100 and it seems like the staff rule the office. Legal assistants and paralegals push back often and negotiate the “ask” of a task. When I started I advocated for what I needed quite a bit. Well almost 3 years later and I feel like they’ve won: I’ve stopped advocating but I’m exhausted. I really feel like I can’t practice like this and feel like this alone warrants a search for a different firm. Am I being irrational in leaving for this reason? Ugh

There’s this 2nd/rising 3rd year in my group who’s CONSTANTLY dropping the ball in my cases. Now he’s simply gone on vacation without telling me and I’ve been left scrambling to respond to a gov’t request. I’m about to strongly suggest to the partners that this person should be fired. Dumb move?

I have a job offer that provides incredible career growth in my current city. It’s somewhat a dream opportunity. I have another, very solid job offer, in a different part of the country. Less money, less growth long term, but it’s in a city my wife wants to settle down in. Has much better WLB. We just had a kid.
