26 yrs old, been in consulting since finishing undergrad. Worried that I haven't narrowed my focus or found a niche to be specifically great at. Every project has been completely different... And I am constantly reading books to get smart on every other topic. My guess is this is all too common in consulting.

I am curious if this is feasible for a longterm career in consulting, especially if I am trying to continue climbing?

100% feasible.

Consulting or not, most 26 year olds aren't experts in their fields yet. You're good.

You’ll eventually focus. The expectation typically is that you to align to a practice area and develop a platform for growth. Usually happens around the manager level, but can be different across firms

like

When you read to get smart quick, are you successful? Even when/if you narrow down, that skill will be critical. Being good at learning + adding “random” tools to your tool belt will serve you very well. I’m continually surprised at how lessons from those random projects come back to help me later.

Should I be happy with just receiving my 3rd promotion in less than 2.5 years to Senior Consultant? Company growing fast, tenured employees getting burnt out/leaving and room opened up to move up quickly. Change in leadership recently as well. Was offered 17.5% increase and this is my first job out of school. I don’t want to grow too fast, but this seems too good to be true…

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?
