2nd year in Biglaw, going to be a 3rd year Jan. 1. I have only drafted portions of dispositive motions, never start to finish. I hit my hours every year but I am worried I am not getting substantive drafting experience at this stage in my career. Mainly have two massive cases where seniors are the drafters and I do alot of the research, analysis, evidence gathering, etc. I am asking whether other 2nd years have had similar experiences so I can determine if I need to make a change. Chicago personal injury/med mal 1-3 year associates: how much is your base salary before commission?

We calendar court deadlines and internal deadlines. Why do associates disregard internal deadlines?

I work at a small firm with not that many workable templates so I usually have to do everything from scratch like drafting motions, pleadings, and researching all potential counts every time. Do bigger firms have better and more templates that allow you to have to do less research?

Advice: my firm incentivized associates to get licensed in fed courts - 4 fed courts for a 5k raise. They also covered the admission fee. I just accepted an offer with another firm and will be putting in my 2 weeks notice tomorrow. Is it wrong to submit an expense report for the charges I incurred related to the fed court admission fees? I didn’t plan on moving to another firm; the new firm sought me out and made me an offer - the process happened so fast. I want to be professional about this.
