Ugh I’ve been there and it’s so hard- just try to chunk it out as much as possible- take it 1 day at a time - take breaks and check in with your baby if you can- and that coming home moment is SO SPECIAL- after a few weeks you’ll see it’s not as hard and after a few months it will become normal but just take it one day at a time- you’ll get through it!
Honestly I’m in month three of being back and I’m still not where I need to be. I pushed myself too hard at the beginning and am paying for it now. Be kind to yourself!
My only advice is to give it a month to get into a routine. Lots of emotions are normal; don’t make any rash decisions before the month is up! It’s a huge adjustment. Give yourself the space and grace to feel sad/weird/tired/confused while you navigate these first few weeks. You will get there! It will become “normal” eventually — but definitely not on day 1. Congrats on your new addition!
It will become easier because you will get used to seeing your baby less :( it has been really hard. My tips would be try to do as little work as possible in the beginning… I think I billed 40 hrs my first month back. My firm has a ramp up period after leave though where u only need to bill 60%. Now I am working long days and all the time like usual and it makes me really sad I’m missing all of those moments.
