90% pay increase?!?! Help!

So, I'm being offered a job at TCS in their C&SI practice. I really like my job (Big 4), my colleagues, and the work is interesting. I honestly don't want to leave, but they are almost doubling my salary. I have young kids and a spouse, and some debt I'd like to get rid of so I can start really putting money away for retirement and savings.

Should I make the move? Am I going to regret it once I'm there? Is this where my career goes to die? What would you do?

You can boomerang back, take the money think of how your family will benefit 5-7 yrs is not guaranteed

Unpopular opinion: not an easy yes. Sure the comp bump is nice but do you really want to work at TCS? Work won’t be interesting, exits will be meh, culture from what I hear is toxic and can potentially strain your mental health

like

Honestly I'm with this guy - not sure about the others but do you realise who TCS is in the market vs. a Big 4?

Not sure what the comp trajectory looks like medium-long term...OP is it all gonna even out or be even worse later?

Tell your current job you've been offered a role, see if they'll up your salary. Not often you find a job that ticks all the boxes except salary.

like

I don’t know your comp or the offer but I do know partner comp and it is WELL worth the grind. That said, I boomeranged and made partner still in 13 years total (at 35) so it’s not like it would kill your chance. You just have to be prepared to take a pay cut to come back and make the final push. I took a cut from 175 base to 120 base to do it. Bet on myself and won big

like

Doesn’t TCS have a bad rep? I’m not sure, but just what I’ve heard in the past from people on this app.

like

Take WITCH, always a spell or two to come back with higher comp or another Big 4/ACN

like

What about the new job makes you hesitate? It seems like an easy decision based on what you’ve shared, which makes me think there’s something you didn’t share that is holding you back.

like

Have you had an opportunity to meet the people on the team you’d be joining? Maybe you can ask for some more meet and greet sort of stuff with the people you’d work with directly. It could give you a better idea of whether those rumors have a hint of truth to them or if it’s really not an issue for the role you’re considering.

Do it. The money is worth it. Your career won’t die there. Your Big4 experience will set you up to shine here. And you can always return to Big 4 or do something else after a year.

like

Take an offer! you can jump back if you would not like it.

like

Get that bag, comrade.

like

Why not? Do it!

like

Leave there’s no reason not to. You can always find interesting work elsewhere or use this as leverage for a year from now

How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Interested in working in PE, but experiences align more with the Ops side (3 YOE in strategic value creation). Is there a significant difference in total comp potential between ops and investments roles? Not sure how to make a case to break into investments with minimal DD experience, so thinking about Ops recruitment (Associate). Would also be grateful to learn about potential strategies non-DD focused consultants have used to ultimately break into investment teams.
