Advisory Board Q’s - Hi all, I was recently approached about an opening on an academic Advisory Board. I have never been on one. I’m assuming it will be uncompensated, which I am fine with— I love the purpose of the specific program. Q’s are, what are general commitments for these types of roles? Typical responsibilities? Will this open up other Board opportunities? Background is in Healthcare. Thank you in advance!

As a once and soon-to-be-again business school dean, I can heartily recommend it. You’ll be asked to provide input on curricula, maybe provide an internship at your firm, and, eventually, contribute some dough, perhaps $500-$1000 a year, or if a wealthy school, more.

Like all nonprofit boards, but especially for b-schools and top universities, it will provide excellent networking opportunities with your fellow board members. You may even learn stuff that will enhance your career.

Thank you very much for sharing your wisdom and insight!

Why don't you just ask them?

The meeting is on the books so that I can, but it’s a few weeks away. Always good to get an outside perspective though.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Okay so I’m a newly licensed attorney in a very conservative part of TX. I just got my first job offer and I was worried at first thinking that I was in “Trump” territory, but I tested the waters in my interview and spoke about police injustices and how prosecutor’s job is not only to protect victims, but also defendants from police injustices. I have to let them know by tomorrow, but thoughts on if this is a good career move for someone who wants to work in transactional work-RE or Bankruptcy?

Hi all. I’m a ux designer at a small company and need to recruit a few people for usability testing. Our target demographic is people over the age of 35 who’ve been in leaderships positions. I set up a call today with an even more senior leader (I am an EVP) and asked him for advice on navigating the political waters of our global workplace. He was so honest and helpful it was .....amazing. I don't think I expected it to be so genuinely helpful. I highly suggest you reach above for advice if needed. Sometimes it works!
