I am sorry you have been treated in this manner. I wish you good things - right sound the corner. You can’t see it yet but it’s there.
@partner1, great response.
My heart goes out to you. No one should be treated that way.
What area of practice are you in? Where are you located? If there are any resources in my network (law firms only no in-house), I'll be happy to help.
Is there a way I can DM you? Thanks so much
I’m an employment lawyer and this post made me twitch. So sorry this happened to you
Agree with A1, this sounds shady and could be age discrimination if everything you're saying is true.
Even more reason to ask for a review!
Might be worth reaching out to employment lawyer, don’t know if you have a case or not.
Thanks yes that’s in the works
Sounds like FMLA or age discrimination 😐
In addition to the possible claims mentioned above, you could potentially have a disability discrimination claim under the ADA as well.
With respect to health insurance, you should be eligible for COBRA but check out the marketplace exchange - it's likely cheaper than COBRA and you can enroll midyear when you lose your job.
Thank you - yes COBRA is unbelievably expensive and I can’t afford it. Spent most of my savings on the very high deductibles and co-insurance which my former plan required.$23,000 OOP for one cycle 😒
I sympathize with you. Had a job after 2 years, closed the Family Law side of the firm. Took another job at another law firm, 3 months later (when the billable hours for the entire firm dropped), I was laid off with the excuse "overhired". I am 62! It is one of the scariest times in my life. I wish you luck and hope you find something soon!
Where do you live. Cold cutthroat heartless business. Rest assured there is karma
Florida unfortunately
File an EEOC charge as soon as possible.
I truly feel for you. This is the evil of corporate America. If you are a staff member, secretary, office services, you are At-Will. They can fire you for any reason or NO reason.
I am so sorry this happened to you and that you were treated this way. I can’t offer any additional advice beyond what has been said here, but I’ll be sending lots of positive energy your way and best wishes. Please keep us posted.
This sounds highly discriminatory. I say hire an employment attorney. And can you open your own practice?
Sounds like an easy case of disability and maybe age discrimination. Your treatment for CA makes their motives suspect.

I am very sorry you experienced “we have to move on by any means necessary” from the leadership of your former firm, particularly considering your current health challenges. Their actions are hateful.
