Aight holiday gifts/tips for staff (mainly my PA) - I had heard as junior that it’s $100 per class year, so for example if ur a 3rd year it’s $300 to your PA. Is that the norm for your firm too, and same rule all the way up to senior year (so 6th year is $600…?) I love my PA but this year with WFH I really did not give her any work, but also we all get paid more what with covid bonuses so it seems extra grinch to not pay out. What’s your plan?

Hell yeah! This is my favorite thread every year. Lets pin this and watch the drama unfold.

also is venmo too impersonal or nah. I don’t plan on going into the office (not many are right now) so I don’t even know how I would give my PA a card with the cash unless I mail it to her separately…

Do stubs typically tip their EA too, or is it after your first full year?

like

@OP, stub year is the class that starts in the fall, the true first years. Right now, the stub class is the Class of 2021 (and people who came out of clerking and started with the Class of 2021). EA is executive assistant/secretary depending on your firms terminology

like

Yes, I think in NYC market $100 per year is standard.

like

If you’re a junior associate would you give a holiday gift to a paralegal? I’ve worked a lot with one who has seriously been wonderful- would you give them cash or an actual gift?

like

Thank you, I appreciate it! We give our paralegals bonuses so I might give her a gift instead.

I always did $50 per class year starting at $100. It was always well received (and my PA would have said something - in a nice way - if I was way off base). Not in NY.
