Just been through this myself, if you feel like client feedback is going to be a pain set up a call with the designer and talk it out - if pushing back is excessive mention it to their manager.
I try to be on the designer side as much as I can but sometimes you have to compromise.
They’ve been trained to be combative. Take it with a grain of salt - and if it gets too much, agree with going to your and their supervisor.
Work should be collaborative, not creatives constantly fighting accounts
Have a conversation with them. Not about any particular client or issue. Tell them you would like to communicate better to make their job easier in the future, and ask how you can best relay things to help them get the job done.
Been there before and it sucks. It actually destroys the creative process. There are only 3 choices… 1. Learn to work with them. 2. Find a new designer. 3. Make room and time for A/B testing (allowing them to create both their edit and yours). The best designs wins.
Remind them it’s the clients money
What you’re saying isn’t inaccurate, it’s just tactless and a fast track to getting your creative team to hate and other you as a “suit”. Managing creative teams against a business goal requires a much softer touch than this.
You have to keep in mind that while there is a business goal to achieve, every single piece of work a creative does is (1) a reflection of their personal craft and (2) the portfolio they’ll use to get their next jobs
Yeah, I basically have been having the same situation with a developer. He was “talked to” by his manager recently. Anyway, it’s understandable if the designer wants to make good recommendations but there’s no need for attitude. It doesn’t need to be taken out on coworkers.
