I’ve seen people run and come back. It’s a headache for campaign finance because have to take donations that create conflicts of interest.

Ted Cruz. Went to HLS, clerked for SCOTUS, and worked in big law, meaning he is definitely an extremely bright individual (at least when it comes to law).

All of which makes me believe his politics and worldview kind of just make him evil

Lots of big law lawyers get involved in electoral politics or in work in the executive branch in some capacity. Why would running for office be any different?

Rudy Giuliani

With enough hard work and grit, you, too, can hold a "presidential" presser at a lawnmower repair shop.

funny

Robert Menendez was just elected to Congress. Was an associate at Lowenstein. To be fair, ran in a very safely D seat with a LOT of backing of local politicians due to family history in NJ politics. But still had to get through a primary running against a very progressive left.

Hi! I have a quick question and could use some advice:

I have 1 job offer that is an hour away and pays 45k, after negotiations (Research Associate Position at a University) .

I have just interviewed for a position closer to home and a base salary of 65k, but haven’t heard back from them in about 2 days (He said he would make a decision by yesterday and I’ve reached out).
I have to decide on the first offer by Thursday but I haven’t heard back from the second yet. Thoughts on next move?

New fish looking for career guidance.

I'm a corporate recruiter with 3 years of experience. Finishing my degree in HRM 5/2022. I'm thinking of getting my SHRM -CP shortly after graduation.

I'm not sure of where to go after that, but I doubt I will stick with recruiting or my current firm.

Has anyone here started off in recruiting and branched out to other HR functions? Do you like your new role? Do you wish you stuck with recruiting?

Why do many associates at top tier firms stay to make Partner when they can go in-house in tech and make around the same, even long term? For example, you can make near 400-550k in-house at Google, Netflix, FB with 8-10 years of exp. More senior than that in-house, it can easily break $1M.

Junior Associates - How much student loan debt are you and your peers in these days? A few young partners and counsel at my firm were discussing the student loan moratorium and most of us were convinced we could have paid the majority of our loans off with the bonuses associates got these last two years. But we are all old and when we graduated 150k to 200k was about the max student loan debt people graduated with. So educate me. What is the average student loan debt these days?

My worry is that EC/VC firms are crazy busy work differently from general corp, I also won’t have control over my hours, and potentially worse based on how billing differs (block billing on a few clients vs having to work with 15 or more startups). Is the same true for tech trans or IP group?

To those at V25 firms, how do you view your London office in terms of the quality of work we get and overall importance to the firm? Like is there a perception of us being a step down or ancillary to the big leagues of NYC or not? There’s generally a perception here that L&W and K&E are the only US firms where London can even begin to compete with stateside in terms of generating l work organically but would be interesting to know what you all think? Be brutally honest.
