How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

100% + SMC … plus fte at Deloitte. $$$$$$$$
How did you get the rating bump? Did you get a full reevaluation complete? Did you go through a law firm ? Tia
Yeah. I’m 100% +SMC
Im at 100%. Lots of stuff out there but also state specific, so check out any tax exemptions where you live.
Also if school is a desire, lots of options there.
Have all my schooling square - MBA. I think kids get free college in GA where I live.
After you’re 100% P&T you can clear any student debt you might have. But only debt you get prior to 100%….. I’ve got my PhD and MBA… always wanted to do med school and thought I had a route hahah
Not completely accurate, Mr. Citadel pf SC - you can get federal student loan debt wiped after you are awarded 100% P/T, but only once.
OP- for your sake, (assuming you are 100% P/T) you could take out Parent Plus loans for your children for additional living expenses while they are in school, and when they are done, utilize your one-time loan forgiveness.
That said, you’d need to stay abreast of tax laws. Currently, and 100% P/T loan forgiveness does not trigger a tax event up to Dec 31, 2025. If you were to get loan forgiveness on Jan 1, 2026 or later, you would need to claim the balance as income. This could be quite significant if you’ve built up a big balance. Ideally the law is extended or made permanent, but for now, 1/1/2026 is the dooms day.
Yes, D1 you’re correct, there are a variety of caveats to it
Indeed. Certainly takes some planning/research.
SMC rating is a nice bump of cash too
Not familiar with the SMC at all
Special monthly compensation. It’s predominately for loss of limb or loss of use of a limb (which I might bump to for severe nerve damage)- but there is SMC-S, extra $500/month if you have (1) 100% single rating and another (1) single rating of 60%+.
I have post-traumatic seizures (100%) and PTSD (70%) so those two alone qualify me for SMC-S.
Ah gotcha, I prob don’t fall into that category but I’m glad to see it exists for those with more handicaps to deal with!
Yes, a service dog can be a huge help for those who are disabled. I know from personal experience; I got a service dog when I was rated 100% disabled and it made a world of difference in my life. I highly recommend looking into it!
