got laid off. have about 12k in 401k to rollover. should I pay taxes now and go Roth IRA or traditional?

Hi! I am 4 years into Healthcare Marketing with most of my experience being in design, social media, and content creation. I also do a lot of blog writing and collateral creation. I am currently with a company that is working on a new role for me and I was previously at another company doing more recruitment-oriented marketing. I'd say that now I have quite a bit more I can offer. I am working remotely and love this job. What is a fair salary for the skills and experience that I have?

Some argue Biden is going to keep pushing interest pause til next election then forgive 10k as a strategy to help get re-elected? I only have 15k to pay and can pay it anytime, but no incentive to when that money can be earning more elsewhere in the meantime, thoughts on what is really going to happen?

I recently was let go (in lieu of accepting my two weeks) and I should have received my March expense check by the end of April per the employment agreement (submitted the report April 1, let go before mid April). I have emailed HR but haven't heard anything. I've got a feeling someone at the top is putting a hold on it.

But she continued to press on the subject until I had to tell her I was a US citizen. I dont know why, but the whole conversation made me extremely uncomfortable. $530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?

Took a lump-sum pension payout from my last employer and looking to deposit the amount into an IRA account at Fidelity. Hoping this knowledgeable community can guide with couple of questions I have:
1. What kind of IRA should I open at Fidelity - i) Rollover IRA or ii) Traditional IRA?
2. Is this transaction considered - i) Direct rollover or ii) 60 day rollover?

Why would you ever want to rollover your 401K into an IRA? It seems like doing so would essentially prevent you from successfully being able to do a IRA to Backdoor Roth IRA conversion due to the pro-rata rule. Am I missing something? Wouldn’t you always want to just rollover your old 401Ks to your new 401K?

Does anyone have recommendations for an accountant (CPA)? I feel like word-of-mouth is going to be better than all the googling I’ve been doing. I’m open to having an accountant not in the state I live in, but preferably east coast. My last accountant was not great and super unresponsive (Google was not helpful even though they had great reviews...)
