Anyone ever have a Principal target you or threaten you? Like, try to get you fired?

I should be so lucky. I've been looking for that sweet severance check my whole career and have never managed to make it happen

I had a Principal threaten me to figure out how to run a global workshop when I was admitted into the ER. Checked myself out, flew, and led a 4-day workshop while he “dialed in” from home and my conference table was covered in narcotic grade drugs. That changed things for me. He gave me an atrocious rating but others defended me, including the client. He continues to get promoted but they have taken all their “people management” responsibilities away. Point being, we know we have some bad eggs. They are known entities. And people will defend you against the immature bullying of select leaders. Take the new role and don’t look back. Why would you want to work with someone who is questioning your integrity.

Yes, as long as you have another Partner backing, it won’t matter. I had a Principal walk in to the bi-annual review room very specifically to give me a negative feedback when I was a Senior. He wasn’t from my group, but was the EP for a large scale transformation for which I was running a workstream. He wanted to exert control over something he had no clue about. I argued with him over a deliverable. Eventually, I turned out right, but it didn’t matter. I got screwed in that years rating, but it didn’t matter in the long run as my reporting Partners had my back. Now a Senior Manager with the same firm, whilst the Principal left the firm.

Some more information on this, I'm rolling off at the end of the most current extension - like when my allocation date ends. It's interesting that this is a surprise to anyone, especially since Partner B reached out to the project team first

So someone I know asked HR about a boot policy. When he found out that there wasn’t one, but his boss said there was (who gave the guys $ for boots and the claimed it on his expense reimbursements as something else) the boss got mad at him for askingHR (and in trouble for the expense reimbursements) and then 2 days later laid off my friend. There appears to be no notice of bad performance and this person always was the first person on the job site ready to work. Thoughts?

I’ve been working for a small investment firm for about a year and am having some issues with my boss. We have a weekly check-in but he’s ALWAYS 2-3 hours late, or skips the meeting altogether without warning. He also never replies to any of the emails I send. I already spoke with him about these issues, but things haven’t really changed. I really like the work I do but I’m starting to feel frustrated about the situation. Any advice? One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
