Hello All,
I have recently joined FIS Global around end of April. My mother recently met with an accident and she needs to be operated.
I haven't been able to update the anything regarding the insurance part yet on FIS portal.
Will my mother's treatment be covered under the insurance? If yes, what's the procedure for the same? What are the documents that I need to submit in order to claim the amount?
Can anyone please guide?

It's your responsibility to teach mentor and bring out the best in your new staff. That's what those above you were supposed to do (if they didn't then break the cycle) and now it's up to you. I have been here a long time and to this day I have numerous people tell me that I am the reason they are still at the firm OR they are still in contact with me from their next career telling me the good influence on had on them in their career outside the firm. It's all about what you put into a person. Patience, compassion, understanding yet hammer home the principles that make a good auditor. It will save you time in the long run when you create a high performer and you may have a friend for life. Try it!!
Considering that the starting pay for PA staff has been declining steadily over the past decade relative to the starting pay for finance, computer science, etc, one should expect the quality of staff to decrease. But partners don't see this yet because all they see is plenty of new applicants and they don't have to deal directly with the new staff we are getting.
This is exactly right. At my college it used to be 80% of grads went to PA. Now it’s probably 30%-40%
We're here for a good time, not a long time

All new hires suck. With every class we say they are worse then the previous one. BUT. Can you see how this class has it a lot harder than any other? Cut them some slack. Explain expectations. Take the time to coach them. Probably more time than what you'd spend last year. Everything is harder remotely so I can't even imagine how hard it must be starting very first job. Patience and compassion before judgment and complaining

This times 1000.
I would say the last few batches (3-4 years) sucked and they were in the office. I don’t see anything different.
D1 nailed it.
Give them time and remember you were new hire too!

@Deloitte OP, Where have you been the past few years with USI? India has been lying to us saying they are swamped all the time and Leadership tells us we have to be “nice” to them. We have so much USI reliance, the prisoners in India have basically taken over the institution called Deloitte Tax.
We also pay people 20% less than 20 years ago and we tell them a USI TC1 is just as good as a US TC1. If that is true - US teams are also going to be as lazy as my USI teams.

I mean, if I’m being honest, even the people who we hired in years past, who used to be good, started sucking since wfh became a thing. Yeah maybe it’s not true for everyone, but it’s true for most

Lol what bs model? My teams never worked that late other than busy season, when we worked until 10. But yeah sure, everything is so awful it gives everyone the excuse to just stop working now that they’re home and hide behind their computer screens.
I swear to god, the amount of complaints about PA. Half the people (no, way more) who work crazy hours year-round do so for the following reasons: 1. Genuine workaholics; 2. Don’t stand up for themselves and get constantly assigned on deadlines; 3. Work extremely inefficiently
I understand OP’s sentiment, but I think this is a good chance to change up our toxic culture. Like the goal is to manage people well instead just making ppl sit there with the team even if they are done with work. It requires managers to actually use brains in assigning work and be nicer so people want to work for us
Nah. I used to stay till work is done and miss outings, be late for pick up games, etc. Since COVID i just say I have a thing and I’ll do it tomorrow, they can let someone else do it.
I don’t care if my utilization goes down and i’m no longer considered A star performer. I’m getting the paid as everyone else, so i’m not working more than needed and gonna live my life.
Thanks
perfect mentality EY6 the public accounting carrot and stick manipulation of its employees has to end!
There is a shift in mentality. The younger crowd does not believe in the work is priority mentality. That becomes more obvious in covid as they go unsupervised and can easily say they are busy when busy means just working til 7pm to them. Whether the mentality is good or bad in the long run is yet to be seen but in a big4 environment when it is silently expected that work is priority, those that do take responsibility on their jobs just end up overworked

Lol how is working till 7 “busy”? It depends on what you do all day. Do you actually log in, fully loaded, ready to go with your coffee at 9? Do you take a lunch break at all? Check personal email? Chat with friends?
I’m not suggesting you count every second of those activities, but in general realize that an hour to an hour and a half goes toward that stuff, whether in the office or at home. If you were working any other client billable job (like lawyer or consultant) you’d be held to the same standard. If you can get your work done by 5, good for you, then just don’t tell anyone how efficient you are. But chances are your teammates hang around till 6-7 because of the reasons I mentioned
There has absolutely been a trend over the past several years of new hire classes being less qualified/motivated and more entitled than the last. There is a totally unfair burden placed on seniors and managers to pick up the slack of underperforming/unqualified staff and it’s basically the number one cause of them leaving. In turn our recruiters seem to just hire anyone with a pulse these days to replace them..
Seriously PA was way easier back then with less transparency and regulation overall.
I completely agree! I thought it was just me who’s had a terrible experience with the newbies. Sometimes I wonder if there was any thought process behind their work whatsoever. I try my best to leave notes and answer all the questions but with 10/15 deadline I gave up and do everything myself. I know, not the best for their development but at this point there are no other options.
Balance out your deadlines with teachable moments. It will pay off eventually as your staff see that you are willing to take the time and not give up on them. It's not easy all the time but who said being a good leader is easy?
We’ve had 2 new hires quit 4 months in (Seattle). So not a ringing endorsement there.
Yes
Then get involved in recruiting like I do and quit complaining. You don't think you came in knowing everything do you?
I’ve talked about this a few times with some coworkers and my firm has def had issues with recruiting, quite a few of them have left after their first season
Maybe they have it figured out and jokes on you?
I have an amazing starting class. Feeling very lucky.
I'd say the exact opposite. I've seen mostly excellent, hard-working, driven new-hires recently. It may be because the managers on my engagements select the best ones, but I really only have good things to say about the new staff I work with.
I was a new hire back in last fall. I sort of agree that since working wfh, i feel like im developing slower.
The new hires that started last fall are falling behind, your hiring class isn’t getting the same experience or help. I’m not sure how this will play out moving forward. I think next season we may not all be in the office as soon as we would hope/like.
