Anyone here ever worked under a senior or supervisor that made them feel like they can’t do the job right or always making mistakes ? And might get fired ?

I feel like this is a common problem with new leaders. I have managers who only give negative feedback so check ins feel like getting dumped on. I asked my coach for more info on things I’m doing well and that really helped.

But I have terrible anxiety and live in a constant state of “everyone hates me, I’m going to be fired” and I know that’s not true

like

I had a senior who was literally the worst person and demeaned everyone. He left last year and I finally felt like I was able to come out of my shell and succeed and I’m getting a ton of positive feedback all year. I’m like, wonder if management realizes when they don’t have controlling and horrible seniors putting staff down, people actually want to grow and do better.

Currently same situation. It’s like dude, chill Senior isn’t that special

Yes, luckily it’s just one person out of several I work with.

Lots of talk about inflation, layoffs, hiring freezes, pay cuts, and stressful job shifts lately. Does anyone have any advice or encouragement to share for those who have been impacted or fear that they will be soon?

Met 2 of our new hires last night at a training. They've been here 3 days and are already concerned about being laid off. Felt bad for their anxiety but think it's ill-placed to some extent

I work for a fairly small company. We have had a lot of growth recently. I made a comment that I was not happy with the company culture. The CEO wants to meet. We have a good relationship. My question is…should I send a email with specific examples ahead of time or just keep it as an “on the fly” convo?

I am a woman Business Analyst. How can you respond when a solution architect is throwing you under the bus and wants you to do his job deflecting things back at you of things you ask or you identify are needed? (He is an Indian man) example: look into databases and queries to define solution, provide to be workflows, identify back end data points, reverse engineer an excel spreadsheet with formulas, queries and macros so he can create the solution.

How do you guys handle someone else taking credit for your work?

A colleague keeps running point on my projects and regular work. I do 80% of the work (strategy + execution). Her involvement is much smaller yet she’s established herself as the main person for this area of marketing.

I have little visibility for my hard work and it’s frustrating nobody sees my contributions as “mine”. They ask her questions she then ask me. Bc we’re remote nobody sees what’s happening and I’m demotivated.

I’m guessing you can’t use the same indie recruiter/talent specialist again or they won’t risk recommending you if the last gig you got from them you were fired.

What's the best course of action when you find yourself at a job that's far more chaotic than you assessed while interviewing? Upon starting this job a couple of weeks ago, I discovered between the time I interviewed and my start date they had hired a new CEO, laid off all of their off-shore teams, changed my position to a new hiring manager, and added an on-call rotation to all engineering teams. None of this showed up in my research of the company or my interviews.

I have a boss from hell. She’s the GM of my hotel and she is a mean girl that never grew out of highschool. She loves gossip. She will trash talk her employees with other employees and once her toxic garbage starts to leak amongst us peons she will send a group text telling us all to stop spreading rumors and to stop being bullies like she isn’t the mean kid with a magnifying glass torturing ants for no reason. I want to stand up but I’ve seen her retaliate on people who have tried to. Help.
