Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

It depends on both company culture and performance. LinkedIn for example only gives it to their “top performers” as well as for promotions.
Yelp is known for giving refreshers up to 40% of the initial grant per year.
Google / Facebook has a standard refresh policy to give 25% of initial grant per year for regular performance.
For us, standard 25% refresher is multiplied higher or lower depending upon your perf rating. If standard refresher is ~$100k, like it might be for an L4 SWE, this could be as low as nothing or as high as $200k.
Rising Star
You typically get LTI / RSU every year and those would have their own 3/4year vesting schedule
$-derived refreshers annually or more: Goog, FB, LinkedIn, MSFT, Snap, AAPL, Yelp, Twitter, Square, many others
Backward looking refreshers: AMZN
No refreshers: ByteDance/TikTok
Amazon subtracts appreciation since your last refresh from this year’s award, which shrinks the refresh if not eliminating entirely (given their incredible performance lately)
I get RSU’s everyyear the go into an ongoing vesting schedule, year over year
Ours is something like 10-70% of initial grant annually based on performance/promo. Then that’ll vest for another 4 but it starts adding up.
Accenture gives $18k vested over 3 years. So if you get it two years in a row:
Awarded in 2018 - after one year get $6k equivalent.
Awarded in 2019 - after one year get $6k equivalent of 2018 RSU and $6k equivalent of 2019 RSU
So on so forth
