Yeah, I do sound like one. If I get 10+% annual raises, what's the point of a review?
Reviews have always been pointless in our world. What matters is kicking ass on a project or account and then acting like a massive prick until you get a raise/promotion or leave for both
I had no idea that people had to ask for reviews. Ours is automated by HR on a yearly basis. How else do you quantify your growth in an official manner?
I quantify it by the percent raise I get each year/request I put in.
If it's strictly financial, then I'm not sure an additional (outside of an annual) review would be that beneficial. But if you're trying to hit milestones towards a title bump then, yes, definitely ask for a check-in to make sure you're still on the trajectory.
I've never gotten a review that was constructive in any way, but I'm pretty awesome so it's understandable.
