I have a couple of questions for ZS fishes-
1. Is it possible to turn down a promotion at ZS? I'm currently happy with my responsibilities as a Decision Analytics Consultant and don't want any added responsibilities in the near future (next 5 years)
2. Is it possible to shape up a career path in the BC stream which doesn't involve business development? I don't want to get into working on SOWs and RFPs.

Yes! They are a great way to close a gap when salary negotiations don’t reach what you’d like. “Can you make up the difference in a signing bonus?” Very common.
Yes, still a thing and taxed at a much higher rate than regular income. I say this not to discourage you from asking for one but to consider how much you’ll actually get in the end.
It seems like it’s being taxed at a higher rate because the automated withholding makes the assumption that you’ll be getting that amount every paycheck rather than just once, so it withholds an amount that’s appropriate for a much higher income. You’ll get a refund when you file your taxes.
Yes! Especially right now.
Always ask for more in any shape or form. It’s the only way to get ahead.

Yes, but more often at independent shops vs holding company agencies
Here’s the way I would look at it: There is no harm in asking, especially if you are leaving something on the table with your previous company, like profit participation or a big bonus or some thing else when you leave. or of course if you have some leverage, but it’s definitely a market force thing not an industry standard.
Yes, but they’re usually only presented during the offer. It’s a good place to get compensated if you’re joining a team too late to be up for promotion that year (I joined an agency in August and the cutoff for promotion eligibility was June, so I negotiated for a signing bonus).
Not really a thing when it comes to agencies. Though, the relocation package is a sort of sign-on bonus, I guess.
I suspect we will soon see agencies have sign-on bonuses since they're having such a hard time staffing right now.
