Yes…squeaky wheel gets the grease. No one is responsible for your growth but yourself. I haven’t had a review in 2.5 years because my boss is slammed. No excuse though…I am actively applying elsewhere right now though and the lack of recognition for what I do is 100 percent the reason.
I got a pretty hefty raise before that 2.5 years so I think that’s what helps her sleep at night. But agree…it’s bullshit
Well, it obviously depends on your company, but to some extent, yes, your growth is your own responsibility and you can't expect someone else to hand you what you seek. If it's become clear to you that there's no room for you to grow in your current job, then looking for another might be your best bet. At the very least, you'll get a chance to renegotiate your salary based on current market rates.
If it makes you feel any better, I had 7 managers in 2 years and never got a proper review, let alone raise. If they can’t make time for you, then you make time for you, even if it is elsewhere.
I might be the manager you are talking about. Put in a catch up tomorrow.
Nope, but don't be surprised if your report quits too.
Jumping ship might seem like the obvious solution, but you're right. There's no guarantee things will be any better at a new company. It's a bit of a gamble, really. But sometimes, taking that leap of faith is the only way to shake things up and find a workplace where you can truly thrive.
