A real life Dwight!
It depends on what you mean by "prank" - if it's mean, dangerous or hurtful then that's not okay.
But if it's just some light-hearted fun and no one is upset, then let it be.
Years ago, I worked for QVC in their call center, their largest call center. And boy did we know how to play, no pranks were hurtful or mean, one day I came in and everything on my desk except for my phone and my computer were in balloons. After I figured out who did that prank, I retaliated by going down to our HR area. They had a very large shredder there, and I gathered up a garbage bag full of shredding and proceeded to stuff every hanging file every drawer and the overhead bin of this person‘s desk with shredding. And to top it off one day, I moved his car in the parking lot from the front of the building to the back of the building. We worked really hard, but we played hard also but again never mean never degrading and that was probably one of the most cohesive teams I have ever been on.
Work is hard, you spend almost as much time with the people at work as you do with your family and if you don’t have enough fun along the way, things can get pretty dark pretty fast.
You sound fun.
I’m sure those who are over office shenanigans have heard “you sound fun” many times. I’m sure they lose sleep over it. (*sarcasm*)
Absolutely not - but they need to whimsical and spread across the team, and not just relentless mashing of the same Dwight all the time.
I’m not down w it. It’s distracting. I’m so thankful to be in an office of no frills. It’s just 5 of us and I love not having the added dynamics and politics that this fluff - any kind of fluff (pranks, “team building”) etc. it’s unnecessary and just unneeded; esp to me, the one who ends up having to get the stuff and plan it.
Well again in my experience teams or teams and they need to bond in someway other than work. Having fun doesn’t necessarily mean pranks you can go do a team builder and volunteer at a food bank. You can have a team day and have games and food set up outside. In my experience teams that don’t bond and just work together and do nothing else. Don’t handle pressure well and are usually slightly to greatly dysfunctional.
It’s been my experience that teams that do have “team building” are just as dysfunctional plus short 3-8 hours they will never get back. I would much rather use that time to do my job or tend to my real life.
