As an new associate at the firm, I don't announce to anyone that I'm gay. Everyone asks about my plans for the weekend. Most of them ask what me and my girlfriend is doing. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Yeah. I’m a pretty private person to start with and don’t want to be thought of first as “the gay guy”. So I don’t really say anything. And just brush off questions like that. Usually people ask “are you married?” And the answer is “no”. Then “do you have a GF?” And the answer is “no” and they just assume I’m single. But then after a while it’s a bit awkward to bring up that I have a BF. As if it’s something I have been hiding. Which is sort of true. I think you can just mention it casually if someone asks “what are you and your GF doing this weekend?” You can just say “oh, my BF and I are going whitewater rafting this weekend “. And word will get out.

I think you should be able to bring your authentic self to work. You might be surprised how accepting people can be.

Life is much too short to spend it in the closet. I have been so out at work that I might as well have had “gay” stamped on my forehead. Nobody cares. You can talk about your significant other, and nobody will care.

Same. Just moved to a new apartment and everyone is like “met any ladies yet?”

Great! Agree, you don’t need to “announce” anything.

Feel the same way OP!

@ RSM user 1; I do bring my true self to work. I don't see why I need to go about announcing my sexuality in order to do so.

like

I'm not worried about not being accepted but I know it's going to make certain feel bad once I tell them since they've been asking about men for two years now.

like

Everyone thinks my roommate and I are dating but then also thinks I’m gay so I usually just say oh we have an open and accepting relationship and walk away. It’s good to have a little mystery

like

I’ve struggled with this myself. Some people know. But mostly I don’t think it’s anyone’s business.

I did this too. Never explicitly said "no, I'm a lesbian" when people asked about guys. I would just say "no" because it's a non-issue. But now I feel like I'm to far in and people think I'm straight. It's been two years and I feel like a fraud every time something comes up about this.

Lol

I think in general people (some people) pounce on insecurities. It doesn't matter what the insecurity is- fear of judgement due to sexual preference. Bottom line, if you're not insecure, people won't act as funny.

My dad who lives in Asia just announced that he had a medical issue. I’m starting to enter the age where I’m going to take care of him financially. I am in a bit of a good/bad spot. I have worked at Salesforce for close to a year as a consultant. They want to bring back travel to 50%+ post Covid and I am not feeling that motivated to be away from my family that often. I have an opportunity to join a startup as a Sr. PM likely making the same or a tiny bit less. But no travel and not consulting. All internal project. I don’t know what else I should be looking at. One of ex’s friends who is I met twice, has been in touch, him and his wife, like commenting on some of my posts occasionally (we are just fb friends and IG friends). I never saw them since. Then the friend texts asking if I am seeing someone and that he wants to set me up with someone. He felt awkward doing that, I thanked him for thinking of me, but then he said we all told your ex he is an idiot for letting you go and they asked my ex it they could still be touch with me and he said yes.

People that have small children - how do you deal with your child’s stress and separation anxiety when you go to work? My 4-year old goes berserk almost every day at some point relating to me having to work. The worst part is that I’ve been working from home bc of Covid and I’m literally just walking upstairs after giving hugs and kisses and saying see you soon 800 times. My spouse is a stay at home parent, but that doesn’t seem to matter to my son. A piece of me dies everyday because of this.

Mom of two here (21 month old and 5 month old) who is starting to consider having a third. I am in my late 30’s and my doctor just recommended I start trying at 6 months postpartum. I am thinking I want to start closer to 8-10 months postpartum but have no idea what to expect with a third. Is anyone in a similar situation? Moms or Dads of two, do you ever look back and wish you had tried for three? Moms or Dads of three, how was the transition from two to three and how much did life change?
