Not B4 but a software consultant who averages about 15-20 a week. I just act like everything takes me longer and they’re still impressed with my quick turnaround
Software is the way
I actually work maybe 20 hours a week, am in involved in multiple internal projects/initiatives, have received gold / almost always ratings consistently, and also am up for manager promotion. If you’re efficient it’s perfectly fine.
There were a few weeks of the years I did end up putting in 30-40 hours but I made sure it was uncommon.
SA1 you want to dry that wet patch behind your ears?
Chief
Imagine trying to glorify overworking
Your friends are probably entry level associates who arent good at their jobs. Any decent performer ive seen in B4 is working 60hours +
SA2 I’m pretty damn good at my job.
I average about 40 in tech consulting, but have done much higher and lower depending on project and client.
I just get my shit done then go back to living my life rather than slaving away for 60 hours a week

I probably do 20 hours of “real work” each week. Another 10 of thinking about work or talking to people at work or delegating work or being in meetings that serve no actual purpose. And the last 10 is part of the work day, sure, but doesn’t really contain any work…this is when I space out and lose time but am “available for work.”
My laptop is closed by 5pm on weekdays and doesn’t open again before 9am. And it’s tucked away every weekend.
After the firm supposedly crushed it this year yet the majority of its staff received middling comp adjustments, I feel wonderful about protecting my personal WLB habits.

What do you do and can you hire me?
Either you have "friends" that lie through their teeth or are incredibly bad at counting. Either way I suggest you get new friends.
D2 you sound jealous - it is very possible and easy to get away with that lifestyle at many of these firms

I worked 45 at my first boutique, 55 as a manager at a second firm, and now 60-65 as a VP in PE. I think I’m doing something wrong lol
30ish gps tech consulting
Rising Star
That is per day
Rising Star
I worked 70 hours a week when I was at a B4. Same here. Maybe it’s time to try out a boutique
Probably why you’re at McK now
That’s sad but also great at the same time. I’m all for people working efficiently, but your friends make up the 80% of our worlds’ work force that simply shows up while I and the other 20% of the work force bust our asses to make a difference and carry the weight of everyone else.
It’s unfortunate in ways, but it’s also a beautiful thing. That’s why we work in teams and it’s also why I don’t mind it.
I’m probably 20-30 hours a week. However some weeks are 50 hours. YOE <1
I left my old company to come back to consulting because I was bored and not challenged. Which meant I work maybe 4-5 hours, if that a day. During Covid summer I joined daily standup then went out on a boat and started drinking ha
With this thread I’ve come to the conclusion being a b4 consultant as a manager might be the best gig there is if you want to half work, half spend time raising a family. Planning for a kid in a year, will move over soon
Also that’s base before bonuses
I basically don’t, but not complaining
I get my tasks done and everyone thinks they take longer than in reality. It also gives me time to work on ways to “better the firm” which gives me good better performance reviews

GPS Human Capital here. 15 is too low but it's true I work less than 40 hours most weeks. Obviously there are exceptions.
Worked 25-45 hours at Deloitte, closer to 25 usually. Cool 55-60 now 🙈
This is true for some people but as u move up (SC, M and above), wlb goes down hill
It’s only gone up for me over time
Which b4 work 20 hours a week?
Oh hey...
PwC management consulting here - Pretty much 40 hours on the dot every week. Almost never more. Have only travelled 3x in over a year.
You're lying!
Also you pec or strategy &. B cause latter is true management consulting
