Assuming this is FDD specific - the benefits are the work is more interesting and fast paced than audit and you can live in a world where SOX doesn’t really matter. Average buyside deal will be a 3 week project, so you’re constantly working with new management teams and traveling to new places. Exit ops include basically anything open to you from audit + you have a better shot at banking, Corp dev, and middle office PE roles. As far as firms go - everyone is sold out now so easy to get interviews - find a team in your city that you like. Everyone basically does the same work
Going into M&A was the best decision I made in my career. The experience opens many doors to you as mentioned above. I left TAS for an incredible opportunity with an industry company and was able to make partner comp plus equity out the gate and work much less hours. I’m in my early thirties.
^ What level were you in TAS FDD when you left?
I was a manager but came from industry prior to that and had M&A exp going in. The other thing I’d say is not to under estimate the value of networking and taking chances by asking for opportunities. Best of luck and happy to answer any other questions. Some people on these boards are a bit pompous but I’m all for open information sharing to help people succeed.
^Thanks for posting - nice to have some more positive points of view around here. I get the sense that people are far to focused on defined exit opportunities (from TAS or generally) than on figuring out what you actually want to do and networking your way to make it happen.
Agree. You never know how a connection could help you or work with you in the future. Plus getting to know perspectives of established leaders is fun and enjoyable for the most part ; )
