I think we’re solid
EU-based employee - same here.
People are great, money is good, projects are interesting, and wlb is not even that bad for the money (55-60h and no weekend work).
Altman Solon is purely focused on TMT, so if that isn’t your thing, you should choose LEK. In terms of exit opps and name, LEK is ahead, but if you are happy with TMT, then the exit opps from AS in that space are pretty good on that front, too (we've had people go to the big media companies, as well as tech and telcos).
One thing to keep in mind is that we are growing rapidly and that the firm you may be exiting from in two years will not be the same one you would be joining today. In the almost three years that I have been there the geographical scope, range of projects and brand recognition has increased massively, and the firm is looking to grow even further. We're opening up new offices across the globe, hiring senior staff and broadening our range of projects. It's pretty hard work, but there are a lot of opportunities for high performers and you get to be part of an organisation where you can shape things to a greater degree than you could in a more established firm like LEK. I guess it hinges a bit on your risk appetite
LEK. Never heard of Altman Solon ?
If you are in TMT and haven’t heard of Altman. It’s you not them.
How long does it typically take to move from M to P at Altman Solon?
AS1, thank you so much for sharing detailed insights. Much appreciated.
I used to work at the latter - choose LEK
While the culture is good, name recognition is pretty poor and you’ll have to fight harder for brand name exits vs. being at a more well known firm to begin with. I think most people go into consulting knowing that it’s a temporary stint, so quality and ease of obtaining good exit opps is important. While I ended up at a desirable tech company, I feel that I had to work harder for it vs. my peers from college who started at LEK. A lot of the perks at Altman (weekly happy hours, etc) are diminished due to covid/WFH, so if you had to pick between firms now, I’d definitely recommend LEK - the name and experience still carries you far even in a remote environment. If you don’t love telecom/want broader industry experience, it’s even easier to pick LEK.
LEK for sure, better prestige and exit opps.
I will highlight I've heard pretty mixed things about the LEK partners in the USA, but at the same time I've heard stellar things for the non-US partners (specifically UK office)
A friend worked at Altman. Tough environment - they ran him into the ground and then fired him. It ended up totally working in his favor in the long run but it was very tough when it happened. LEK is fairly decent from what I hear.
SA1 he pivoted to a more Operational/Analytics role in the HR space and has a pretty senior role with an industry leader in the industrial space.
