Can anyone at STB share insights on available perks beyond compensation? For example, any extra stipends for tech or for mobile phone etc.

Are you asking because you have an offer there and want to plan? Or because you’re using this to choose as between firms? Cannot stress enough how insignificant this should be if the latter.

I dont think anyone in the know would agree with you that billing is easier at kirkland than a peer firm without the negative environment at kirkland simply because the food is free. I dont think that claim is totally outrageous, but I imagine very few people think free food at kirkland compensates for the hostile work environment it is well known for. It softens the blow, sure, but given the alternative options, you wouldnt take kirkland over a peer simply for free food. I guess im curious how this plays out. What firms do you consider Simpsons peers such that the free food at Simpson would be the deciding factor over that peer firm? Does it matter by practice group to you? Trying to figure out our disconnect as to the importance of it.

Don’t listen to the other commenters on here. STB is one of only a few firms to offer free lunch and breakfast every day. This basically leads to you getting paid materially more in compensation if you calculate the value of it ($5-8k), not to mention all the time saved

And the food (in New York) isn’t bad either!

$2500 tech stipend I believe. Believe refreshed every two years (but would double check). Tech stipend can be used for a phone. You can have a firm issued android without using the tech stipend, but if you opt out you get $50/month.

Agree it’s every 3 years. Pre pandemic the stipend was only available post probation but not sure if it’s been relaxed now.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Can I leave my biglaw job 3 months before my COA clerkship? Not sure if it will look bad or like I have a gap in my resume. I’m going on 2 years at my firm and I can’t stand it. I’m burned out and the partners I work for told me not to take a vacation this year because of my upcoming clerkship. I have ALREADY billed 2,200 hours this year. I’m absolutely not coming back to this firm post-clerkship.

Name the most ridiculous micro-managing by partners that you experience.

I’ll go first: MP told me that on initial emails, I am always to start with “Hello [name],” but after the initial email, I am not to address her by name again in the same thread. Initial greeting can only be “Hello [name] ” because just first name is too brisk and a “Hi [name]” is too informal. Had a 5 minute, in depth conversation as to why she prefers it this way…

How do people focus in the office? I'm a first year and I've been mostly wfh since I started and I'm super productive at home - my setup is comfortable, I rarely get interrupted, and I feel like I can stay really focused in my home office.

Our SAs started today, so the firm is making us come in more often. My office set up is so awkward, screens are too small, and I'm constantly getting interrupted. Not to mention the extra time it took to get ready and commute. How do people do this?
