Hopefully accepting a new job soon, do I need to tell my current job where I am going? Part of me just wants to stay vague and say I’m taking some time off.

Partners - Do you ever take vacations?

I have been at my current firm for about 1.5 years, and in that entire time the partner in my group hasn't been out of the office a single time. Is that normal? I can't tell if it's standard for big law partners to not take time off, if the dynamics for my group may be different (only 1 partner in the entire group), or it the partner I work with is just a masochist.

PSA: it’s better to use all your vacation and then quit vs taking the payout. I just got cucked.

Do you think we will be able travel by Christmas for a vacation?

Hello everyone! How do you manage holiday pay when the holiday is on a Saturday/ Sunday. For example, if I have someone working on Christmas (Sunday), they should be paid 1.5 but what if they work on Monday as well?I know this might sound silly to some people but I’m covering for payroll for the holidays and I don’t want to mess up!

What is your title and how much vacation do you get?

I found the following perks in Deloitte should also be considered at RISE

1. Office Phone reimbursement
2. Well-being allowance yearly 25k
3. Vacation allowance of 25k
4. Amount of Rewards and Recognition min 5k compared to current reward Rs.1500

How does a person change their mindset to be more positive? I feel like I’m meant for my job, but blame all my life problems on it….having no energy, being single at the age of 30, etc. and it seems like a never ending loop. I look for new jobs, realize I have a good job then am ok for a bit then start it all over again. When I’m off of work I’m fine and realize I have it pretty good. Only real negative is I can’t vacation with my family in March due to my busy time.

How much time off do you get for the holidays? I have 1 week off. Social workers or therapists at hospitals or treatment centers especially.

EY 🐠 - potentially starting with the firm soon, and my partner is due to have our first in April. Given the 1 year service requirement for leave, would I have the option to take PTO during birth and use parental leave after my 1 year of service? Appreciate any guidance here

I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.

We all need to do our part to normalize self care, and sitting at home doing “nothing” is just as worthy of a vacation day as pina coladas on the beach.

Outside counsel has been prepping company witnesses for a trial in August. It is my subject area so I am supervising outside counsel. I did not, however, choose the counsel. He is doing a really awful job. Co counsel is better, but not great either. Higher ups love the firm… I do not want to micromanage, but I have genuine concerns about outside counsel’s ability to try this case. Trials are rare, and I just don’t think these guys have actually tried many cases. Cont. below…

I just accepted a corporate counsel role with a large Fortune 500 company. Any advice or thoughts on make the transition from a firm to in house?

My agency doesn’t submit for awards, and I’m not saying I’d win if they did. But as much as we say awards don’t matter, it feels like they do at a lot of places I’d like to eventually work.
