Anyone recently received a tax manager offer from EY ? I’m going through final interviews and want to see what your experience was like (negotiation process, initial offer higher/lower than expected?, did you give them a salary expectation range? How long did it take from final interview to offer etc) TIA!PwC EY KPMG Deloitte

I’m sorry to hear this! Having a JD but not a CPA is not a requirement for big 4 and most medium firms. I’m a JD only and a tax manager. In the big four and Medium firm context you can make principal (non- cpa equity partner) which is the same thing as a partner ( cpa equity partner) Public accounting firms have to be own be at least 2/3 CPAs. But yes - most people move firms for either a bump in pay ( same title) or a title (comes with a bump in pay). You just have to believe in yourself and make others see it.
It's been 3 years
You can specialize. I’m in SALT. The problem with most firms is that they don’t know how to fully utilize lawyers. They hire you right out of law school and, if you join any group besides M&A, have you prepare tax returns right beside the new undergraduate campus hires. My first couple of years I never got help out on audit defense stuff. I also felt like every CPA looked down on me like I was just a stupid attorney that doesn’t understand numbers when I majored in accounting. They never wanted to hear “it depends” and instead just be told the correct answer.
Omg I know how you feel. They refused to pay my bar dues but pay peoples cpa dues. They said they don't need my bar and it's not helpful to my job. But they like when I sign all those POAs and call the irs - which I couldn't do without one credential or the other.
I also get stuck in the weeds too much they say. And by that they mean I will repeatedly explain why I don't think I can file a reasonable cause statement, a first time abatement, or shareholder health insurance must be reported a certain way, because our facts don't fit the requirements. They just get annoyed with me and say they always do it that way...I guess maybe that's true and the irs doesn't notice but...
Interested in leaving? My group likes both and my boss specifically likes JDs. Let me know.
You can move firms to get a promotion. Sounds like that might be the path for you anyway.
