SF is extremely competitive and gets a flood of the top gunners from T14, it’s also much much more expensive to live in SF. LA (anywhere in SoCal) is more relaxed and you generally see attorneys hired locally so there’s less competition. The only part where SF wins is that it has better public transportation

SF firms are full of “non t-14” local law school hires as well (Hastings, USF, Santa Clara) so not sure your point stands there…

Take a week off and visit both. Btw u need to have a car or fly between them.

Yes, LA has far less tech work.
The vibes of the cities are very different--SF is small. LA is sprawl, full of beautiful people.

True for both cities. CA has a lit of homeless people with mental and substance abuse problems.
My husband and I live in LA but he's an SF native and we visit frequently. I honestly prefer the vibe of SF generally but it is so expensive that it made more sense for us to stay in LA since we are hoping to start a family in the nearish future. Firm-wise, I think LA is more laid-back in terms of work expectations but tends to be a little more fratty. The SF teams I've worked with always seem to be so nice and down to earth, but a little more buttoned-up and pressed for time.
