I always take a few days off before Christmas and a few days off after New Years Day if I go to a bowl game.
Just send her the link to the holiday calendar and let her know that the office will be closed.

Yeah this seems to be fairly common company moratorium and holiday week between Christmas and New Years and is in-line we our policy.
Many companies actually give employees off the last week of the year. She must have come from a company that has the policy.
We normally close for 2-3 weeks around the holidays.
