How much yearly hike can one expect at Société Générale ?
"Depends on performance" seems to be a very vague answer.
Can someone please elaborate on a better answer.
Also, Can someone shed some light on promotions?
Is there any policy, like you have to work for X years to be eligible for promotion etc.
Thanks in advance.

This really varies. I make more in salary now than many clients and some medical professionals, but many, many other clients and medical professionals make much more. Same with lawyers, I have some in my family and I make more than them, but a friend is a partner and she makes way more than I do. I think it is less to do with the role itself, and more to do with whether you are specialized in your industry, or if you work for private vs public.
I would say, all things considered, I do think the ad industry is "highly paid" in the sense that we can make quite a bit with relatively few skills and higher degrees. That's not to say that we have no skills, but we don't need years and years of additional schooling, residencies, clerkships, etc. to be successful.
Agree. It is incredible how much we in advertising get paid for what we do, and how much is spent on fluff. A younger colleague was astonished that the average HH income in NYC is about $60K.
If you make more than 80k a year, you make more than a resident physician.
If you make more you make more than 95 a year, you make more than a Fellow.
If you make more than 120k a year you make more than a pathologist.
If you make more than 180k a year, you make more than most in family medicine and a lot of hospitalists (ex: a pediatrician you might have see your child)
If you make more than 250k, you make more than a specialist who has joined a private practice or even a neurologist!
If you make more than 375k a year, you make more than a cardiologist !
If you make more than 500 a year you make more than a gastroenterologist and most physician partners in private practice.
If you’re a C-level creative you might even make more than a surgeon.
It’s not just based value brought. It’s the ability to source the right person for the job and the specificity of the skill set. For example, Nurses are very valuable (nearly just as valuable as doctors) in the overall healing process of a patient. But they are easier to staff for due to the relative ease to become one.
Also remember the ad world is ageist so your time to make money is limited.

And if you think creatives don’t make that much, try being in another department in this biz.
Absolutely.
For something I genuinely enjoy doing and just kinda fell into, the pay is great!
MDs in residency make as much as an AE, you make multiple $100ks later in life depending on specialty but you pay up significantly for malpractice insurance. At the telco I’m at, low level marketing managers start at $168K incl bonus, so I imagine my VP makes more than double that.
Chief
Wow MDs pay the insurance themselves?! Not the hospital they work at?
A doctor has to spend $200k+ and it takes years of schooling... I’d hope they make more than I do.
Plus the whole saving lives thing.
The pay: required school debt ratio is much better in advertising. Many of my friends who went into the medical field are living with parents and barely scraping by due to mountains of debt. It’s awful.
I make more than my wife who is a doctor
Honestly what do people expect, many parts of the advertising industry are in decline, so why on earth would salaries be on the rise?
There is still money to be made in this game, but it will begin to resemble entertainment more where the top percentile of talent earn 90% + of the gains.
You can find a profitable niche and freelance - I know motion designers making six figures who only work half the year. You can go into pharma. You can go in-house.
You have to work much harder now to earn your money in this business, especially as a creative. But I really enjoy this job. So that’s okay.
If you want money, then join a growth industry; or be happy with what you have. The fact I could make $100k-$250k guaranteed per year as a creative person without a degree is remarkable.

Omg. This makes me want to shoot my self seeing these salaries
Physician salaries are weird. You make more in more rural/remote locations. We live in the Midwest and my husband, a non-surgeon physician, makes ~$600K/year. If we moved to NYC, NJ, or SF he could only get $300ish for the same number of hours/year.
It’s a supply and demand thing. I guess a lot of doctors want to live in the big cities, so they can pay less there. The highest cost of living cities have the lowest MD salaries.
IDK but I tell myself I must be making more than my client to feel better about what a horrible person they are.
Bonuses are rare as hens’ teeth in this industry. Only high-up folks and the well-connected get them. I’ve been doing this for decades and have never gotten a bonus.
Compared to other careers requiring similar skill sets, specialization, and education, yes, advertising pays well.
It’s kind of a dumb comparison. It’s much harder to become a doctor. And our jobs are way less stressful.
Rising Star
You should factor in that you’ll involuntarily be retired from this industry around age 45. Doctors are allowed to have gray hair.

It varies SO much in the industry but if you take into account how much medical school is and for how long... I dropped out of college, am almost at $200k and I’m only 29. I’m ok with this trajectory and happy for doctors (who, btw, are actually doing life saving work) who make double+ that
It also makes a difference where you live. It's up and down. I'm 52 with only an assoc. degree and still kicking ass. My salary has gone from 100k, down to 85, up to 150, down and back up to 160.
Not too shabby.
