Cross-posting here, but I’m looking for an entry-level associate position. Just graduated from a T20 with a somewhat low GPA, and I’m interested in transactional and tech/privacy work. Which firms care less about GPA?

If you didn’t summer or otherwise extern anywhere, also apply for in-house jobs at companies in the industry you’re interested in and then lateral to a firm. If your goal is to get into big law it might take a few years but is doable with the right experience. They (sometimes) tend to care less about gpa if you have great industry connections and good experience they can relay into more work.

Thanks for the tips! I’ll check those companies out and look for those titles!

Just apply everywhere. Mass mail all firms with a corporate group. Unless you were bottom half, you will get bites. If you were bottom half, you may get fewer bites, but still apply everywhere.

Omg A2, congrats! That’s awesome!! Sounds like I might actually have a chance.

I’m confused. Did you not summer? What happened with that?

No, I didn’t get anything during 2L OCI, so no summer/offer there. Did tech work instead, so hopefully still relevant

Any downsides to leaving a “Counsel” role and moving into a “Legal Affairs” role? Still practicing and representing the company, just a difference of titles, so core work remains the same - what do you think?

Would love to hear thoughts on best approach of you are a senior associate at V10 firm. Do you just become counsel until they tell you that partnership is not in the cards or do you try to hop to the first partnership (equity, or at least NEP with clear progression to equity if you bring in some business) opportunity at a say V50 firm. I’m not home grown at my current firm, but do have a small book currently.

When your seniors aren’t motivated and pulling their weight, it shows and demotivates you. It’s a domino effect. How do you handle these situations? The senior pushes every single thing down and it’s clear to everyone this person could care less. Makes me not care and not want to do anything either…

I work at a ‘free market’ firm and have developed a very good reputation among partners. Naturally, they are drowning me in work. Each time a new case comes up, the partner will email asking if I have “time and interest” in helping. When I’m at capacity, I take these words at face value and explain why I can’t do it, and that seems to work out ok with no hard feelings. But what’s the “interest” thing? If I don’t want to work on a toxic tort case, do I just say that and pass?
