Depends what the trajectory is at the new firm. 8k doesn’t seem like a lot in the long run
You left for 8k? And you make 132? In any normal year, you’d get that in a decent performance year. With a promo, you’d double that no problem. You are literally so dumb.
Unless you are leaving consulting for tech and a career there .. that small increase ain’t worth it.
Rising Star
The 5k post tax is not worth making a jump. Here you have Partnership opportunities, 7 figure salary, hard to get that other places. Even if you don’t make it to that level, you can make it to SM bringing in 200-300k salary. Think long term. The unlimited training we have is worth more than that small bump. You can use your offer to negotiate a retention bonus or salary increase.
Partnership opportunities is like the snake oil btw!!
I am now dumber for having seen this question from OP.
After those deloitte layoffs? I would leave... I had a few friends who have great networks there and over 10 year tenures get let go. The company is ruthless.
Lmao you know what? I changed my mind maybe you made the right move OP
$8K is nothing in the big scheme of things. If you see your career trajectory in say 40 years, you will realize that amount won't make a difference. It's more important to choose wisely the career steps and opportunities you take. If it is because you want that job or because you don't want consulting anymore, then good choice.
Coming from a poor family doesn't add to justify the reasoning as more eloquent, and keeping that mindset may even hold you back from making smarter decisions later on. I think it would help you more to stop telling yourself that story. If you are a consultant now you are not poor anymore. You can still help your family and community in bigger ways than what $700 extra per month (minus tax) give you now. Excuse me if the message is too blunt.
I overall agree but OP nested in a comment that they were getting a 40k bonus and nice benefits. Which is definitely material to the consideration.
Are you going to industry? Do they have stock options? How is their 401k match?
*Did I make the smart move?
More money is always better. I say good job. Although 8K isn't huge, hopefully it is better than D
Money is only one factor in your career, why would I take an 8k pay hike when I can stay at a place and learn skills that are exponentially more valuable in the long run?
I def wouldn't leave. Having a supportive supervisor is worth his/her weight in gold.
I left uncle D for a 60% raise! I grew up poor, but I will leave an inheritance for my children. Know your worth.
