We expect our cashiers to be 98% utilized
We don’t include PTO in our utilization calculation. I think 95% is pretty standard for the lower level roles that don’t have a sales target.
Ohhh okay thank you!
PTO is not factored in to the denominator. And yes, 95% is what I had at my old firm as a post PhD hire. Now as EM at another firm, it’s 70%, for context.
It depends if it is based on full utilization (includes PTO and holidays ) or effective utilization (not including PTO and holidays)

Overtime
There is no overtime. The govt client I’m on is a strict 40 hours & would have to get permission
It's easy. When you're on a project, bill actuals. You'll hit 95% easily with 4 months on the bench.
When they complain, hit them with the "where would you like me to ghost my hours?"
A quick path to being sidelined for any future work
Forget that. Tell us about auditor to cashier story. Are you retired, are you having that office space movie’s main character moment…..
Noo my fishbowl synced with my old indeed account 🤣 it’s not up to date. I’m unfortunately far from my main character moment
My firm is 80%, but expects the other 20% to be PD work, for my level, I should add
Oh, sorry. I meant as the floor. Don’t go lower than 80
What firm are you from? We do include PTO hours in denominator.
Yeah when I was at Grant Thornton everything counted against us.. holidays, vacation, training, etc. but it would always work out because of busy season
15+ years ago I was at Deloitte GPS and PTO was not accounted for in utilization back then. Analysts had a 95% target, if memory serves, and that pretty much put you between a rock and a hard place on the typical 40 hour capped fed project back then if you had any bench or training time.
I’m at boutique and 100% of our bonus is utilization… and PTO and Federal holidays count against us 🫠
Practitioners are expected to be billing 100%. Principals need to be meeting and exceeding their sales goals. If you don’t fall into those categories, you are always at risk.
