Anyone have any friends who successfully pivoted out of advertising? I know a handful of people who are half-trying to, but I can’t think of anyone who has made a clean break, on their own terms, into something that appears to be making them feel more fulfilled than they were in the ad biz. So they continue freelancing in order to make a living, while not gaining much traction elsewhere.

Currently SM at Bain (4 years post MBA) and was approached for a senior associate role in portfolio ops at a large PE fund. Been told 2.5 years to VP and another 2.5 years to director. Feels like the role is a bit junior but offers a 50% pay jump.

Thoughts on seniority? Also, any interview resources for PE portfolio roles?

If I accept the promotion to Partner/Principal what's the least number of years I could work without it being a financial mistake. I have an opportunity to do something completely unrelated that's my passion, but I feel like that's the wrong decision when I'm this close.

The other opportunity should still be there for 2-3 years

What questions should senior associates be asking to get a better assessment of partnership prospects? Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department. The title is standard “counsel” although the work would be with the senior leadership team and reporting to the GC in Europe. How reasonable is it to ask for a bump in title - Senior counsel or Head of Legal, US? If it matters, I am a 6th year and have been told that I will be expected to hire a junior or paralegal as we build up.
