Do people wear moose knuckles/canada goose/moncler parkas to work downtown?

Or is it too much? Pretty common in NYC, but I’m new to Boston. Thanks!

People wear them but it’s too much. Do what you want; they’re not so out of place that you’d stand out (basically every international student has one and Boston is teeming with those)

I thought moose knuckles were a super cameltoe?

likefunny

Same, thought I was being trolled to google it, but it’s true. Apparently Moose Knuckle is a homonym.

It’s *fine* and you won’t stand out at all. People *will* think you are/were an international student from BU/Northeastern.

I feel like they’re too much for any situation in Boston. A typical winter day goes above freezing in Boston. Wearing a coat designed for -17°F is ridiculous. There are plenty of down jackets out there that are 1/4 the price and weather appropriate.

like

Canadian goose warmth- TEI 1 (Lightweight): 5°C to -5°C (41°F to 23°F)
TEI 2 (Versatile): 0°C to -15°C (32°F to 5°F)
TEI 3 (Fundamental): -10°C to -20°C (14°F to -4°F)

For Boston, which averages 20°F to 40°F in winter, TEI 2 or 3 jackets are appropriate. TEI 4 or 5 may feel warm but are ideal for the coldest days.

Haters gunna hate but wear your Canadian Goose

I wear my ski jacket unless I’m wearing a suit, then it’s a wool overcoat.

like

Canada goose though very warm is an incredibly inhumane brand. They are supposedly moving away from animal fur, but it’s only because the animal activists have been shouting about it. The real fur on the hoods is coyote fur …. And coyotes in Canada are often hunted in a very awful way (can suffer for days in traps before dying from starvation, dehydration, or attacks by predators)…
Maybe the brand is turning a corner, but probs you can find a really nice coat for way less money that doesn’t have as inhumane practices (Patagonia is a b-corp and generally pretty good about how they source material, treat employees, etc) .

So FWIW, please don’t buy a Canada goose jacket

like

I splurged on a Canada Goose last winter and it is hands down the best purchase I’ve ever made. I wear it daily. Who cares if a rando thinks it’s “too much” - I walk to work and don’t dread it anymore because I’m so warm

like

Which model did you get? Debating the Langford

I only wear my Canada Goose to the office. Gotta look better than you, OP 🤣

like

I’d say people wear puffy coats all the time in downtown professional situations but….the trend is back to wool/camel coats so that’s what I see the younger people wearing more…and older still wearing puffy

like

I don’t think people think it’s too much, BCG 1. I think people are just saying it’s basic.

like

I seldom wear my Canada goose parka - it’s just not that cold here. If you walk down Newbury street anytime between now and the end of April you’ll see dozens of them though.

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. My wife and I are moving to Boston from overseas (we’re from Italy and we’ve recently won the diversity visa green card lottery).

We are looking to rent a 1BR starting in January, ideally for ~$3k/month. I’ll be working in the downtown area.

Do you recommend we go for a serviced/luxury apartment (e.g. Montaje, 345 Harrison, etc.) or hire a broker to get a “normal” apartment?

Any managed buildings recommendations within our budget? Also, what are some good brokers we could work with?

Thanks!
