I think about this all time
Easily. My sister makes roughly the same as I do and only works 4 days a week. My brother makes 2x what I make and has 10 weeks of vacation. If only I hadn’t wanted to “do my own thing”...

@P1, that actually sounds more appealing to me than sitting in front of a computer all day.

I was about to say “being on call sounds like hell” but then I remembered doctors have days they’re not on call and I do not 😞
My husband is a doctor and has 5 call days per month! I have 30 or 31 lol
You go through hell upfront (medicine) vs you’re in hell forever (law)
Probably in more debt, that's all I know lol

I often think I would. Always wanted to be an ER doc. And the hours don’t sound any worse than big law.

Honestly, dude, other than being a little gross and a little sad, that doesn’t sound that bad to me.
It’s a toss-up. My spouse is a doctor and there’s so many doctors that have God complexes and are toxic AF. And you have to work under them for years and years during residency while making like 50k. At least you get paid well in big law. Residency is worse than your time as an associate and the time people spend in both is about equal. They also have multiple exams over the years. We have one.
The dream job is being an orthodontist. Make a massive amount of money working four days a week and have assistants do 90% of the work.
Probably more fulfilling but more stress and equal hours

Literally chose law school because it was shorter than medical school 🤦🏻♀️

Bruh, same. I was missing some of the classes I needed and would have had to do a post-bacc, which adds a couple years. I am a clown. 🤡
Is everyone who’s commenting also in IP?

No, but I grew up around the medical field and have some STEM background.
My wife is a doctor and I still rather be a lawyer.
She pays for all her own conferences, courses and exams which runs up to thousands per year and she needs to attend/take to get further in her career.
Her hours are insane and it's never the actual shift period indicated, and most of her colleagues have this altruistic notion that they shouldn't record overtime hours which they are entitled to.
A2: the budget/allowance is a joke though
My wife is an anesthesiologist and works 3 days per week. Usually home by 3-4pm. She has the perfect gig. I often times wish I’d have gone into medicine, but only if I could have her job. 😆 She has a lot of doctor friends who work a lot harder and under more stress. It took her a lot longer (school, residency & fellowship) to get a chill gig vs me, so I’m glad I went the law route.
My SO is a doctor and I don’t think it’s even a question. If you are interested in medicine don’t even consider Big Law.
Hours: much better. Predictable and finite.
Pay: also much better. Specialists can easily make $500K+ if they want
Career path: no up or out model. Can easily set up own shingle.
My sisters are doctors and I would have to say yes.
