I don’t but that seems decent. I for sure wouldn’t keep 20% cause that’s 32K which is too much but keeping 16K at 2.5% is solid. Direct deposit doesn’t make a difference really unless they have terrible service or something.

I refinanced my student loans with First Republic Bank (before they replaced their student loan refinancing to “personal line of credit”). I didn’t keep 20% in my account, but I had 10% in the account, had direct deposit and was quoted 2.2% for five years for around the same amount and at similar credit score in around 2018. They also gave me a rebate when I paid back my loans within a shorter time period but not sure if they still do that. All in all, it was a positive experience and I didn’t have any issues.

Also refinanced with them as student loans. Had to maintain around 10% of the original loan balance for life of the loan. Received 2.6% fixed rate, need to maintain direct deposit of any amount for life if the loan. No negative experience yet, and no fees for early payoff

Did you guys just use the account as your checking account?

I do not. I just maintain the minimum balance and setup direct deposit 2x per month for the amount of my monthly payment.

What credit bureau’s score do the look at? FICO, Equifax or TransUnion?

I believe they pulled all 3 for me

I racked up about $20k in credit card debt due to a confluence of things happening at once (move, school expenses , etc ). I have a fair amount of paper assets but not a much free cash. Any suggestions how to handle the credit card debt without racking up tons of ongoing card interest?

$530k HHI, $250k cash on hand, $1.2M investments/retirement. Plan to buy $800-900k house as our first home, but thinking of the best approach given rates today. My thinking is that we (i) put $200k+ down and get a 5/1 ARM. (ii) put everything we save moving forward toward paying down the principal (after maximizing retirement accounts). Should be able to do $100k per year. (iii) If rates go down below 4.5ish % for 15 year fixed, refinance and stop aggressive payment. Thoughts on this approach?
