It's Unlimited PTO.
30+ days in a year isn't "way too much." That's only 6 weeks or 4 depending on how you are counting. It may not be enough depending on how hard someone is working or how much time off they are planning.
Our policy allows managers to approve up to 4 consecutive weeks per quarter without anyone else's review. No limits on consecutive days/weeks. And there's no cap on days in a year.
It sounds like the benefit of unlimited PTO wasn’t integrated into an operational reality.
Probably need to create some use cases assuming people will use it and in what ways, then identify what mitigation strategies there are for coverage.
It’s unlimited. 4-6 weeks is standard PTO. Manage your team’s PTO schedules so they don’t overlap and the client work is getting done.
PTO use should always be encouraged.
